No hate, here! I think the rest of the peanut gallery is pretty chill, too ;).

I can't thank you enough for giving our product a try, even if it wasn't what you're looking for in a BBQ rub. Perhaps we'll have a new variant down the road that is more along the lines of what you're looking for. If so, I hope you'll give it another shot! I'm always looking for new ideas, so if you have any input, I'd be glad to hear it.

Really cool what you're doing for the community, too, in offering the rest of your stash up like that. Hope it works out for the winner!

    Welcome!

Judge, eh? I could use some input. We didn't do as well as we'd hoped in our last competition . What are the SLBS rules? I've only done KCBS and read a bit about IBCA. Can't say I'm familiar with the St. Louis variant.

Those Humphrey's smokers are badass. Looking forward to reading/seeing what you pull out of that bad boy.

I'm telling you, those guys can capture all of that deliciousness with the camera.

I would be way more than happy to host something like that on our site and do what I can to help get the ball rolling. If @Cold Iron and @WBF610 got the pictures together, I have a guy that works with images, layouts, graphics, etc. that could put them together for us (same guy who designed our rub labels). He is a photographer, too, but not so much a BBQer :D. Simple steps/recipes + outstanding images in a no-nonsense book would be great!

If that was the case, I’d actually have to break out the dslr and flash set up, instead of the iPhone.

You can tell when someone has a knack for photography. The tool becomes of secondary importance. That said, I have a feeling that when the DSLR gets in your hands, it's game over ;).

Sadly, I seem to catch as many good quality shots with my iPhone as I do with my DSLR/flash setup....

Can do so much more with the dslr though. I have canon gear, and one of their L lenses. That lens is pretty damn sharp.

I always put about a 1/2 of chimney on each side unlit (3-9 O'clock) then dump the same amount lit over the top. Make sure you have a drip pan down. Bottom vent 1/2 open top wide. Try to keep her around that 325 mark. Adjust bottom vent accordingly. Rotate grate 90 degrees about every 45min till bird is done. Just prepare yourself for being a hero and half to cook the bird every year for the rest of you life

Yeah most of my food pictures are with the phone and it pisses me off more times than not. I like Canon my first real camera was an AE-1 picked up in Japan in the 70's. Got back into it a few years ago and went with Pentax this time because pretty much only shoot wildlife and outdoor pics in less than idea conditions. Usually have the longest reach lens on that I can so not the best for food shots. I will run into someone on the river once in awhile with a 500mm+ Canon L lens and I get some serious lens envy.

Speaking of birds, I've heard these guys taste like chicken.

Nice shots! That 500mmL, love to have it, but I’m not mortgaging the house for it.

I need to get my gear out, been awhile. Main reason I got back in was for the kid. Now he can’t sit still for more than 10 seconds, so I just grab snaps with the phone.

Certainly, I was speaking from an opportunistic standpoint. My phone is rarely out of reach, my DSLR (Nikon) not so much.
