Cabela's fly rods are on clearance in my area.

I just picked up a "Three Forks" 6wt for $49.99!

These are the store version of TFO fly rods.

They are way cheaper and have a much better warranty...and they seem to cast just as good as the higher end rods.

Don't tell the wife, but im gonna sneak back in and see if they got a 4 wt left.

I need to get into fly fishing. I got a rod and reel a few years back and never went anywhere with it. Seeing all these pictures really makes me want to get back in and try again.

As I like to say "90% of success is simply showing up and getting out there". Don't have to have things perfected. Learning/experimenting is all the fun.

Now that I think about it...this applies to more than just outdoor activities!

I still enjoy fly casting in the back yard. Something relaxing about watching (and feeling) the fly line defying gravity.

Pick a patch of grass and see how many cast it takes to place your line near that point.

My 75 year old widow neighbor told me she loved to fly fish when she lived in Wisconsin. She saw me casting and wanted to talk trout fishing.

Fly fishing doesn't have to happen only on the river.

Actual fishing is about 20% of what fly fishing its to me. Ive met some REALLY good people from fishing and explored some of the most beautiful places in PA fishing. It sounds cliche but its a full experience.

Find a good fishing buddy(s) and youll make memories thatll last a life time.

I needed to make a storage tube for the latest rod I picked up (see above). I usually plaster the tubes with whatever decals I find.

I decided to go a different direction. It seems I'm always the guy that get asked to show my buds how to tie a particular knot. I don't know if they won't put the time in or if they honestly forget. And if its one I haven't tied in a a while, it shortens the learning curve a bit for me as well.

Playing around on the internet I was able to find decent illustrations of some of the more common knots used for fly fishing. I printed out the ones I like to use and plastered them under some packing tape. They are now easy access for anyone in my circle of fishing friends.

I'm sure there are knot that others use. I'm not starting an argument. Please use what you like.

I picked up a 10' length of PVC drain pipe and 6 end caps. I only need 2, but you never know if I need to make another rod tube. Pipe and caps was less than $10.

I attached the knot "decals" to the tube with plain old packaging tape. I didn't feel like I needed to to a super special alignment[IMG] [IMG] [IMG] job. This thing is gonna get tossed around.

If one wants to save weight, you can go with the thinner vent pipe. Its a little more money. You use the same end caps for both sizes. I didn't see a point. The storage tube stays in the truck.

    Read “Curtis Creek Manifesto “
If u guys or @scottalot have a house cat try using A piece of yarn or a plastic bag to catch them (no hooks duh)
Inside a he house use the tip section of ur rod and cast around furniture like they is boulders. Big old cats are harder to entice just like big fish. They’ll run ur drag too

Look on eBay. I found a nice Okuma feel that I read and it said it was a nice starting point.

Edit: I’m new to it too but I did buy a rod and reel earlier on. I could be wrong so if I am someone correct me.

That's how I taught my daughter to cast, fishing for our cat in the house with a fly cast trainer rod. Kept them both occupied for hours.

I worked in fly shops in high school and college, I spent hours trying out different rod/line combos and doing casting classes. If you enjoy casting then even when you're not getting in to any fish it's still fun.

I picked one up(peak vice). My first impression is it is well built and solid. Locks tight! I will let you know after a couple months of tying on it.
