N-Fab Rust Solutions?

I've had these N-Fab nerf bars for about 2 years. That's 2 full winters in New England. I knew rust was a risk, I just didn't expect it so quick and so severe. All of the threads I can find deal with preventing the rust in the first place, but I want to know if anyone has any suggestions to fix this now that it has already happened, or any experience with doing so that they can share.

Also, do you guys think N-Fab would do anything about it at this point?



All 4 steps look pretty much like this.

 

Picture is showing mostly surface oxidation. I would have them sand blasted and recoated to improve the appearance.

 

If that's what they all look like its just surface rust so far. A wire brush/wheel and sandpaper to get down to bare metal and then primer and black spray will have them back to looking good again.

 

quick google tells me there's a place a couple towns over that does powder coating. obviously they are closed today, any ballpark idea of what they'd charge?

that's what i feared. i only paid $370 shipped, so that would be hard to justify. i'll probably just wire wheel them and spray per hoarder23's suggestion and see how long they last this time.

 

This area sees a lot of road spray. I would suggest:
1. Install longer mudflaps
2. Spray/roll on a tougher rocker guard or bedliner coating on top of the paint.

 

I've been fortunate. 2.5 years and 2 winters no rust at all on the bars.

I’d take them off. Wire wheel them put either POR on them or bed liner.

 

I agree with bed liner. Not powdercoat.
Theyll slowly start looking scuffed and ugly with a nice powder coat.

 

Several hundred my ass. I have stuff powdered all the time. I had my sliders completely stripped and redone and it only cost me $300 slightly higher than normal as i had them etch them (unnecessary process) for better application, otherwise about $200. Just did my tailgate reinforcement plate for $100...

EDIT: Might seem like a lot compared to what you paid for them but they will last forever after being powdered and will never have rust again.

$200 actually translates directly to a couple. Several is multiple couples.

 

Several - more than two but not many. Therefore $200 = couple hundred, $201 = several hundred

 

That statement implies multiples on hundreds. 201 is still just a couple hundred. You can keep trying but you just look like a dumbass desperately defending your error. Happy thanksgiving.!

How about next time, don’t post vague responses that can be interpreted differently and provide people with real data they can use; there’s enough BS on here already.

Since we have no idea where the OP lives prices are so very regional .

About 160 miles east of me shop rates are double of what they are here

Then liquid brine use can make redoing them a every spring event

Then if your bouncing off trees and rocks or wild shopping carts makes a difference

 

Those look bad for just 2 years. Can't hurt to try contacting N-Fab about it.

I would recommend the following:
1. Soak the rusted areas with WD40 and let it sit for about 15-30 min
2. Wire brush and/or use a wire wheel to remove as much rust as you can
3. Use a rust converter type spray - for example: Rustoleum Rust Reformer
4. Apply a top coat of whatever you want(black paint, bed liner etc...)
