So I love in Ontario, Canada and we get alot of snow up here.

The dealership wanted $1600 for 10 year rust proof, but I declined due to a lot of people telling me it's a ripoff.

How many of you guys rust proof your trucks. Some people say you have to do it and others say it's a waste of time.

What do you guys think. I think there is a krown rust proof place near me.

If you plan on keeping the vehicle for the long term, go with the Krown. Been doing it for years on all my vehicles. Yearly application, 130.00 for the Tacoma. Our road salt in Northern Ontario is a killer on the vehicles. Fluid film sounds good also but usually self applied.
    Hope this helps

I got Krown done on my double-cab last Monday, $140. I did a lot of research on Rust proofing, and I was really impressed with what I read, and the reviews I seen on Krown. We will see how it does/holds up, but I was happy with the application process.

I fluid filmed my truck last weekend. I did it in conjunction with a tire rotation and oil change so could get better access to some of "nooks and crannies", and I used a compressor/ spray gun.

Its work to do it, and it can get messy, but I am a do it yourself kind of person.

My truck is almost 2 years old, and the underside looked ok, but I noticed pin hole spots of rust on the sheet metal portions of the underside. I live in New Jersey and they salt the roads here.

I would suggest you do something to address rust concerns. I like fluid film and have read good things about Krown.

    Good luck.

Mine was done using a waxy based product. Then I use FF on a lot of areas, hitch, hinges, stuff inside of engine bay, leaf springs. Mav Coat on shocks. Rust never sleeps.

Had Krown done about 2 months ago. As another poster said - it's $130, but you are supposed to do it yearly. Be aware though - Krown does drip. I had mine done, then drove to Toronto the same day, and left my truck at Park n Fly for 3 weeks while we were on vacation. Came home, and a week later, had drip marks on my interlocking driveway.

A lot of members recommend Fluid Film. CTC seems to be the main dealer in Canada, so that turns a lot of people off, so they do it themselves. You could try that if you are so inclined.

I apply Fluid Film a few times a year ( more than needed). Our winters with cinders and salt brine on the roads are nasty. Last truck was 13 yrs old with no rust which is very rare in my area.

Try TSC for fluid film. They have the gallon cans and the applicator kit as well.

I did the dealer rust protection. The whitish yellow inside the panels stuff. It was almost $1000 cheaper than the OP but I did the spray ONLY. If his includes the undercoating (sound deadener) than that may explain the price or if it includes the elctronic device as well. IIRC the GM of the dealership said it is a 17 year warrantee on body rust with this done so I felt it was worth it. Yearly inspections and reapplication when nessecary.

About fluid film purchase in the US:

    ordered a kit from Kellsport
( http://www.kellsportproducts.com ) last year, I used discount " "tacoma" (without quotation marks) to get a 15% edit: 10% discount.

The "pro gun" worked really well. I completely covered the underside with less than half a gallon. Last fall I used spray cans, and many cans barely put a dent in the total area I would have liked to cover, not a problem this year.

And this thread has some good tips:

+1 for Krown. The stuff works and I can recommend for our harsh Canadian winters. $139.

My last truck was a 2003 Ram 2500 which I bought because of the Cummins. Older truck with a motor that will run forever and an underbody that you could eat off. It had always been sprayed with the Canadian Tire Corrosion Free system they sell. The thing was completely rust free in 2010. I said screw it at this old and no rust so the body will last at least as long as I will want to keep this truck so I didn’t continue the spray. That decision cost me $40,000 (cost of a new Tacoma). Truck ran fine but the body was falling off 6 years later when I sold it. Drivers rockers and rear drivers cab corner were GONE. Brake lines so rusted they popped. Couldn’t remove a single bolt without spraying them with PB blaster every day for a week before trying to remove them. I sold the truck and couldn’t remove my trailer tongue with even a sledgehammer.

6 years and it went from immaculate to selling it at a discount for basically the drivetrain. The new brine systems for de-icing melt the steel right off. My neighbors 2010 F150 he had the tiny start of rust bubbles done and repainted when he bought it used in 2015. In 2016 they were back and more. This was a proper professional fix and repaint. He is now looking again due to the rust and doesn’t want new due to his farming in addition to his day job. A new truck would get trashed with just one tough muddy day on the farm. My recommendation is do it all. Use every rust trick in the book and then do more. It is a losing battle but to not do it in today’s conditions is suicide for your truck. If you look at the cost per year to keep on top of rust protection vs the cost of just one rust fix let alone the fix next year and the next year once it digs in you are so much farther ahead. That doesn’t even account for the shortening of your trucks life which needs to be replaced sooner instead of riding longer without payments. Rust is the ONE thing I can’t fix on a vehicle. All I can do is chase it from one place to another.

I have similar experience, and pretty much agree 100% with everything you wrote.

Rust is one of those things that will kill your perfectly running vehicle and make it worthless - if you let it.

I tried some stuff similar to Fluid Film but the smell was awful, for this truck l bought some Cavity Wax and sprayed it, hoping it does well.

Rust has cost me personally 10’s of thousands of dollars that I would have saved if I lived in a non-salted roads area. $150 a year or so to spray? Pocket change compared to the cost. We wouldn’t skip oil changes or basic maintenance so why do we try to justify saving a penny on rustproofing? Try and get that legendary tacoma resale with rust.

+1 to everything - Fluid Film if you are the DIY type, Krown if you are the get it done with the wallet type. 3 vehicles that I have had all looked like new after years of NJ/PA/OH winters. 1 I didn't practically had the frame fall off.

Give consideration to "Corrosion Free"..... I've been having it applied to the last 4 vehicles I've owned.... Works very well.... apply yearly if in Ontario's "salt belt", like me..... about $150.00....they drill a few new holes to get inside everywhere..... Hardly drips any..!

They warranty brake lines, etc as well.... the stuff lubs springs and protects the wiring from hungry mice also..!! My 10 yr old Taco looked like new underneath and the frame was in great shape when traded..... Got a much higher value as well.!

I'm a total believer...!! Krown, I do not know....I've heard good things about it though..!

My Corrosion Free guy is OCD on this stuff and he does a VERY good job...! (Like it was his truck)..!
