Do they have to be mutually exclusive??

I'm perfectly happy with who I am right now- and I want to continue to learn and try new things...there by improving myself. Seems like they can coexist??

I'm not saying right or wrong... I was just contemplating my navel and thinking. They don't need to be mutually exclusive but they tend to be. Otherwise why would we do anything about it? The yin and yang of it is good.

The reason why I am asking in a mutually exclusive way is saying "What is more important for me today?"

In general I see people that want to prove the point - "I am good being me!" and somewhat blind to their faults. There is also the other extreme of "I have to... aught to... How can I be a better person today?"

I guess I see the "Strive to be a better person" position a way to accept others more and the "Be comfortable" as a passive.

It was sparked by how I deal with a number of service people all day long. I love to tell people thank you. I also know people that say "No need to say thank you, I am just doing my job."

It's just my shallow mind taking a dip.

    Thanks for engaging! :)

Edit: I personally like to strive to be a better person. That is just me. I am not a hater to anyone that thinks it's more important to be comfortable with them self. I do enjoy the social experiment we call 'our world!'

What is a man that doesnt make the world a better place? I always try to be better than the man I was yesterday, to challenge myself at something and do something that scares the hell out of me. My .02.

Yep both but I chose be comfortable with who you are. If you can't do that you won't have a happy life.

#1 is more important, because it leads to #2.

#2 does not necessarily lead to #1.

Personally, I always believe I'm capable of better than I'm doing now.
