Hello, I'm a new member to the Toyota world, I've been reading the forums for awhile but just signed up.
Anywho, I just purchased a 2006 Tacoma and just went through my first full tank of gas and it's getting 10mpg,I know that is really low. The specs say I should be getting 18-21 mpg. Any suggestions I could do or look at that could be causing such low mileage or make it better.
Any ideas would be nice, thanks

Ur running e rated tires which are heavy.... what size?

Id clean the maf sensor, change plugs (due at 30k intervals), clean throttle body, replace air filter.

    Are you running a k&n?

    What modifications are done?

Steel rims maybe killing SOME mpg... try sticking a magnet to em. Factory are 16" aluminum.

    And p rated 265/70/16 tires

The tire are 16's, no clue what's actually under the plastic cover on top of the motor. I didn't really think about the plugs, would it kinda chug if split want sparking? Idk I'm just a girl who's been driving a4 runner for ever and I would say this truck drivers much smoother.

All the above plus driving style matters. Tire size, maintenance like brakes & air filter. Gotta think alignment or a bad one will scrub off mileage also.
Quick starts and stops will kill your mpg. Do you consider yourself an aggressive driver?

Yea I've thought about swapping tires, not the wheels, with my 4runner, but idk if smaller tires would look good on the lifted truck?..

I wonder if your 02 sensors or cat converters are going out... that would cause some mpg drop but eventually throw a check engine light me thinks

A lil bit of an aggressive driver, maybe. I did just send it to the shop for new tie rod ends, ball joints, rack and pinion, front rotors and rear brakes, oh and the alignment.

Cool not bashing anyone here but my wife has to be pushing one pedal or the other all the time.
Me I get upset when the farmers in their fancy tractors pass me and flip me off. But I can get 30 + with her car and she gets 21 on a good day.

Lol and I bought mine to not be a work truck just something I’d always wanted. I will shed a tear the day we part ways.

Yes that's how I feel bout my 4 runner and I know I will feel the same bout my Tacoma, I know I would never own anything other than Toyota. Once you go Toyota you'll never go back, lol

I’d say you’ve done the right stuff already. Rolling resistance and having the motor breath and run well and the transmission working well along with the diffs. I’m thinking it was maintained but looks can be deceiving.
On a side note here but have you checked or had the frame checked?

No I have not checked the frame, I've been under it a cpl times and haven't noticed any thing, but also want looking much at the frame. I did notice acpl weld spots on the exhaust but that was bout it. Well that and I noticed a leak but I was told that was the rack and pinion, but if you looked under the hood at the valve covers it either had a leak at one time or still does. I need to clean it up and see what happens before I go treating in to the job.

What the other guys said, plus:
What size are the current tires?
How did you calculate the mileage?
How much highway driving versus city or stop and go are you driving?

Edit, sorry, you already answered a couple of those.

A mileage tracking app I have and by math calculations both give me the same number. I do start Andy turn off the truck allot in a day, I clean bout 20 pools a day so alot of neighborhood driving but I drive 30 miles each way on the freeway, to get to my route and back home
