Back in the 80s, my dad was drinking with some Navy buddies. One of them was really short, and I guess "Napoleon Complex" would be the correct term? He got drunk, mouthed off to a bouncer, and was literally thrown out the door and onto the windshield of a parked car...

VERDICT: Just because you're protected under the United States Constitution DOES NOT mean it's a good idea!

Also, on another note, almost every police officer I've ever talked to has been a "car guy" to some extent...

I do enforcement of a different type but know most cops in my area. Attitude has everything to do with what happens...

Actually, depending on the jurisdiction swearing in public is a legit charge, usually classified as unruly in public, public disturbance, or something else similar.

I'm not gonna lie, I've never "mouthed off" to a cop, but the very first time I got pulled over (6 years after I got my license), I didn't realize I was getting pulled over until the marked Expedition pulled in behind me. I pulled over to let him pass, thinking he was going to a call and got a nasty surprise when he pulled in behind me. It was a 11pm, I was tired, I have Asperger's Syndrome which means I sometimes don't respond well to changes in my routine, and I honestly did not realize I was speeding. First words out of my mouth were "I don't know why the hell I got pulled over!" That got me a $180 ticket for 43 MPH in a 25 MPH zone, which would have gotten me four points on my driver's license! I have a friend who's a lawyer, and I fought the ticket. At my court hearing, I got the opportunity to talk with the officer who pulled me over. I explained that I have Asperger's (and like many cops I've met, he knew what it was), and then I apologized and we shook hands. I got off with 5 MPH over and no points on my license.

Just 4 months later, I got pulled over for absentmindedly making a left on a red light at a confusing intersection. I was so polite to the cop that I got off with a warning! :)

I guess. But I imagine you’d have to yell it pretty loudly for the cop to consider it a public disturbance. Flipping them the bird or calmly saying fawk the poeleece to an officer is legal. As long as you’re not threatening them.

Now, swearing in the presence of a cop, especially when you are the victim, is a different story...

When I got hit by a drunk driver two years ago, I'm pretty sure I said something like "Look what this asshole did to my fucking truck!" while the cop was taking my information...

In my younger years, I drank heavily and what always got me in trouble was when I knew something was stupid(but fun) the voice of reason and logic turned into the voice that said “I bet you won’t...”. I eventually learned this and quit drinking almost all together

Cool! So you're an LE or Protection Ranger? My cousin Thomas is just a regular park ranger. He's been stationed at Glen Canyon in Bullfrog (2015-2016), Utah; and at Yellowstone (2017). Once he's in for more than two years, he gets some kind of tenure, so that's what he's shooting for...
