step on the gas, count 1-2-3-4 and then it goes... when you need it, it's just not there. Very scary

That actually one of the few issues I never experienced in my truck.

That sounds like major safety recall issue stuff. I hope you can get it sorted out.

My own experience with Toyota is that they have a warranty but do everything they can to not use it. The vast majority of dealership techs are average mechanics (at best), and you need to fight to get the senior/expert tech to look at it. That's usually when you'll get traction.

But as always...call Toyota corporate and create a case. This way you know it's been documented. If something ever happens down the road, it would be nice to have Toyota on-the-hook for it.

One more question to the OP: did you have rpm's surge while pressing the throttle and no movement, or no rpm's either?

( sorry) know this was not for me--but--I have same issue---- no RPM's when does it--throttle to floor and engine keeps running, but you all of a sudden go no where( mine is from stop signs turning right doing maybe 14 to 17 mph. ( I do not tromp- not going to) not how I drive. Had for 6 months, started doing it Sept-- 6 times so far. Absolutely cannot duplicate it. Had 3 app with dealership to check codes--shows nothing they say. I ask 3 times for them to ck tranny fluid---setting there one time 3 hr 25 min. Have talked corp in Texas allot asking how to fix-- she says never heard of it. Case # means nothing if in accident!!
Texas-8003314331 ext 73858 Julie. Thought warranty meant they cared and tried a tiny bit==Nope. Lied to me 3 times saying they checked trans fluid. Julie( Texas) found out talking to dealership where I bought-- that they never checked it. My 7th Toyota thinkin my last.

    None so far
There is a consistent thread here. So far 3 of us have had it happen while turning right from a stop sign.
No surge of the motor, nothing happens.

May be more---and few turning left- more than right turns---have allot printed off. Also threads with Hesitating-- another stalling. Hoping everyone calls Texas--and lets them know. She tells me I am only one.

i posted this a while back on another thread. drive at 40 mph with ECT on then holding steady at 45 turn ECT off you will feel the truck slow down, feels like it is breaking slightly. this is why many of us here have installed the ECT on at startup mod. drive with ECT on for a day and you will be surprised.
it clears up the issues stated in this thread.

Do anyone of you that have this issue also have updated firmwares for ECU and transmission??

My truck does NOT behave this way (17 OR ACLB purchased in August of this year). When I'm making a turn and put my foot down I squawk the tires, every time...

I tried to mimic this behavior but can’t. Now if I am making a turn and try to push the pedal through the floor in one tire squeeling maneuver without backing off at all I can get the traction control to come on and it stops responding to the pedal until I back off. IMO this is a safety feature in case you have a short or stuck pedal. I had the transmission TSB done in the spring of that matters.

I find that I have to be gentle when getting off the line especially around corners unless I want the truck to launch hard and get out of shape. If you just mash the pedal it tends to be uncivilized and throws everyone in the cab around which is not how I drive or how I want my passengers to feel when I am driving. I honestly think two people need to get together and drive each other’s trucks. One with the issue and one without. If you can replicate the issue on the other truck or the other guy can’t replicate it on yours it is simply due to driving style.

I don’t have this issue and can’t replicate anything like it when I try unless we are talking about traction control related issues. Like I said I drive this civilized and baby it. I do my hooligan maneuvers on the racetrack not the street.

I had this issue with my truck also. My truck was in for the differential recall 38 days. After I got it back the issue is almost non existent. It may hesitate for about 1 second or less now, where it used to last up to 5 seconds. I have only had the ecu tsb and the rear diff recall. On the recall they replaced the carrier and diff gears, nuts, bolts and seals.

I am slow driver--pulling from stop signs always slower--is about 14017 MPH when and if does hesitation total power loss--petal to floor and no response. = when it does it. My 7th Tacoma--( not all are doing this.) Mine started at 6 month. Cannot duplicate. Is not skid control, I know what that is--- had issue on a 2010--. This is dry pavement, turning right only. Has done 6 times. Have never tromped it-- do not drive that way. The "master warning lite" comes on"---- not skid control. Manufactured Mexico 2/17. Bought April 2017.SR5 auto. 6 cyl.

I'm surprised they are not all over this. Try and cross a street and it hesitates and you get t boned by an 18 wheeler. Sad thing is that's probably the only way they will do anything about it.

I have had a similar issue. Here is how I can repeat it; moderate acceleration, take my foot quickly off the gas pedal, hit the brakes slightly, then go back to the gas pedal. After hitting the gas, there is about a 2 second delay before anything happens. There is no RPM increase. It doesn't seem like a transmission issue to me. It seems more like something in the throttle-by-wire.

21,000 miles on my TRD OR/auto and it's never happened. Normal? Not normal at all.

    Talk to your dealer.

I can confirm this. Pulling onto the freeway while on the on-ramp last week i noticed that a semi lane wasn't planning on moving over or slowing down so i yielded and took my foot off the pedal and hit my brakes, then hit my gas hard and there was nothing there for about 3 seconds. I'm now really going to take my truck in for recall work, this all sounds like CPS. It sucks i might be without it for almost a month or longer if my diff is bad but i travel 600+ miles a week and after reading the CPS thread and these replies i decided i don't want to die!

I'm going to try to replicate this on mine later today. I haven't noticed this before and like I said I have never had an issue with hesitation on this truck so we shall see.
