I am coming from a 2002 Tacoma Access Cab to a 2013 DCLB (virtually same length as gen 3) and the difference in drive-ability isn't that drastic. I am going to get a topper and sleep in the bed of my truck during summer months. I love the DCLB. Only crappy part is I had to settle for an automatic transmission :/

I think the short beds look weird now. Especially with the gen 3 where they made the front longer. Seems like the truck is so front heavy and all of the body lines are abruptly cut off on the short bed. All the lines around fender wells in the long bed complete themselves and look more cohesive.

Hi, new member. I just bought a 17' TRD Off Road LB. For me it was LB or nothing because I haul my motorcycles in it and I like
to be able to close the tailgate. I really wanted the six spd manual but the salesman said they're extremely rare so I went with the
six spd auto. The truck I traded in to buy this one was an 08' Frontier Nismo 4x4 w/six spd manual and I'm not going to say I'm feeling
buyers remorse but being used to driving a stick for so long I have to say I can't stand the auto transmission in this truck. It feels very
sluggish compared to my old truck. Make no mistake, I do love this truck and everything about it. It is top notch in every aspect except
the lackadaysickle feeling of the AT. I'm curious if the six spd manual versions have that same power delivery. I will say the power mode button does help some but it seems like every time you encounter a hill you have to slam the pedal to the floor to maintain speed. I'm sure I'll get used to it and get over it, just wanted to share my thoughts and introduce myself to the forum.

I have a manual and love it, no power issues for me. However the manual trans does not come in Longbed, so it's auto long bed or no Longbed. Manual short bed with tail gate down or trailer.

Long bed for me...I struggled with this as well because the short bed felt a little sportier.
After having mine for almost 3 years there are not many places I can't take mine.
Having the extra space is a godsend when you need it.
I back in 99 percent of the time so parking is a non issue for me due to the camera. I was in the military and this was a common practice to "combat park" I guess that carried over haha.

For me the short bed was perfect. I have a short single car garage and with a work bench at the far end, a long bed would have made working in the garage with the truck in there very tight. I thought long and hard about the 2 choices, since I have a work vehicle and this truck is only for pleasure it's perfect. The way I resolved the possible need to haul extra stuff was I bought a 5' x 10' utility trailer. The trailer is perfect as well as when I need to haul extra stuff (mulch, lumber, etc.) the long bed wouldn't have been enough anyway. So, for the occasional need for the extra foot I did not need.

I agree the short bed does look somewhat "short" with the new design, however it has grown on me. I personally believe that the truck needs a little more extra height in the cab to make it look balanced .

I kid, I kid. IMO, DCLB with sliders. Turn too tight on the trail, sliders got you covered. Turn to tight in the parking lot, sliders got you covered.

20161106_100233.jpg My decision when I decided to get a new tacoma last year was longbed. It has been the best decicion I have made never regreted it on the road , hauling stuff ,or even in the woods.

Access Cab Long Bed. after one year of searching, I almost talked myself into the AT and I looked at the 2017's. But I wanted the V6 MT and finally found a a 2015 TRD OR w/ 30K miles to get everything I wanted including ACLB. For me the LB is valuable real estate ! Traveling/sleeping in the back, hauling tools while on the job. Stock setup w/ BFG T/A KO2 LT265/70R16/E Love driving this truck.
I can say the one thing I do not like is how tall the reverse gear is, searching this site I found the work around—when needed slip it into 4WDL ! Problem solved.

I went ACLBMT, myself. Would have probably fone DCLBMT if it existed, LB was really the only option for me. Going back to the original post, though, an LB to haul bicycles? I've purchased very few accessories for my truck. Light bulbs, Plasti-dip, a bungee net, a Hurst T handle shifter, and a cheapo hitch mounted bike rack from Harbor Freight. Quite frankly, having a receiver hitch, I'm not sure I could justify using a bicycle as a reason to buy a long bed. I could find thousands of other reasons to get a LB, just not a bicycle. Yes, the camera still works fine with the bikes on the rack, too.

I haul atv's, dirt bikes and mountain bikes all the time so it was LB for me. I like the look of the SB better but the LB won out for convince. so happy I went LB.

    Not enough
TRD OR DCLB for me. The only downside was that I wanted the 6MT - not offered. I sorta wanted some of the premium/tech features, but I absolutely did not want the sunroof. That was a dealbreaker.

So I ended up with a DCLB in QS. The gear I carry and how I load out for a trip, the LB was a must. I guess I don't do the technical stuff enough to notice any issues with the additional length off road. Per the book, the approach/departure/breakover angle are near identical for the SB and the LB. 32/33.5/21 vs 32/33.1/21. That's stock. So lifted it probably is a moot point. I park far away and politely. Not an issue.

Aside from what I carry on the rack, the LB for me fits 2 or 4 bins up front. The second row is my 95qt freezer fridge and a 45qt pelican. Misc stuff in the gaps. Perfect - for me.

Ordered it in Oct 2015. Arrived Jan 2016. Waiting didn't bother me to get the truck.

Long bed for sure. If all you do is off-road and tight trails.. then do a dcsb and 285s, best combo.

Long bed drives better, more comfortable, and doesn’t squat NEARLY as much as the short bed when the bed is loaded up due to the longer wheelbase.

As far as parking lots go.. sure the turning radius isn’t as tight, but I have ZERO issues with parking my dclb in tight areas. Just my .02.
