Hey all, i noticed the 2 year old thread about the frontier was popular so i decided to start a new thread , give us your personal experiences with the NISSAN FRONTIER. As a former FRONTIER owner i know that the quality isn't even close to TACOMA. NISSAN has always made a good reliable motor/drivetrain but they cut corners on quality. Poor interior fit/finish, No corrosion resistant bolts. These were common problems that NISSAN did nothing to recall/remedy. The plastic wiper linkage let go and my wipers quit working in the middle of a snowstorm. The blower motor resistor went and the blower would only work on high, Airbag sensor went, Frame and Floor pans rusting out. This all happened under 75,000mi and my dad who still has his 1999 frontier, has had all the same issues.

I only test drove Frontiers, but if they had had one with the same options as the Tacoma I wanted I would have had to flip a coin. If the same-optioned Frontier had been cheaper I would have bought it.

I like my Tacoma a lot, but the Frontier is a very good competitor.

it's only a competitor if you've never owned a tacoma for any length of time. My previous truck was a Nissan. There is no comparison imo. The build quality is superior.

Like I was telling my buddy the other day, Nissan sure loves plastic. Man they put plastic everywhere. They would build plastic pistons if they could get the motor to run.

Most of the Tacoma is plastic too... from the dash, interior door panels, handles, switches, ect... even the fender flares on the TRD's. That's the trend with newer cars... they need to save on costs and weight, plastic fits the bill. Also the bed on the Tacoma is a composite plastic.. the Frontier's is metal. Just say'n.

I honestly think they're pretty evenly matched on most aspects... but the looks and overall driving feel of the Tacoma are vastly improved over the Frontier. Spec wise it's damn near on par.. but the ass dyno says different. I saw a widebody frontier with LT that looked sick, I won't lie... but it didn't look half as sick as a LT widebody Taco :p

I test drove the frontier two times, standard and offroad options. I feel like it not me and I really don't like the looks inside and out. I drove rental Chevrolet Colorado, BLAH! Before I brought Tacoma, I test drove sports and offroad. Then I brought offroad. I am happy with my truck and love it.

toyota uses a seemingly higher grade interior plastic with textures, the way nissan uses plastic is very unappealing. The composite bed is a very good idea, lets weigh out the benefits vs the drawbacks of the tacoma's composite bed........ will NEVER rust, Stronger, easy to clean. Much better than having a metal bed and shelling out $600 extra for line-X/rhinoliner. And plastic bedliners over your metal bed will wear pinholes thru the metal and trap moisture.

For the longest time I was looking at getting a Frontier Pro-4x OR or a Xterra OR. Ultimately decided I wanted a pick up so ruled the Xterra out and decided I liked the looks of the Taco better. Don't really need the OR goodies main reason I was looking for that in the Frontier was because I think they look better than the non OR ones. Really liked the one Titan I saw too but it was about $5k more than I wanted to spend. In the end, I said I was going to get a Taco when this gen came out in 05 and that's what I ultimately ended up getting.

Well, I almost bought a Frontier. Got the offer close to where we wanted, and the payment was only $30 cheaper than the Tacoma, but also a year less on the loan, only $460/month for 72 months. So we (my dad and I) told him we wanted to sleep on it and the guy flipped out on us. Saying we wasted his time and made him look like a dick in front of his boss. Why I dont know. There was a lot of customers sitting around us when this guy was yelling and going off. Then the manager jumped in saying that we wasted everyones time and wasted the owners time because they gave us this great deal. So we left with me telling the salesman to go fuck himself and proceeded to tell every employee that on my way out. When we got home, the owner or boss called, cant remember which, and appologized and said the employee would be repromanded and offered me the truck at $400/month for 60 months. We declined and said we would never do business with them and would tell everyone we knew to not go to them. Next day I went next door and bought the Tacoma. Honked and waved to the Nissan dealer as we left.

I liked it, just as the OP stated, it was pretty cheaply made. Everything looked like shit in the cab and it felt even smaller to me than the Tacoma.
