As someone that owned a 2014 FJC and a 2015 Taco, the VVTII engine in the 2014 FJC was a MUCH smoother feeling engine under throttle plus it had that extra 42 HP to boot. THAT is the engine they should have used in the Taco with some refining and fuel economy updates like better transmission mapping and shift points and parasitic losses through the drivetrain.

What I didn't like with the FJC engine was the bleh internal oil filter and slow messy changes. Other then that, the updated 4.0 on the older FJC was far superior to the 2015 Taco VVTI.

FWIW, I’ve used Chevron 85 since day 1 in my Pro, getting 21 combined driving it fairly firmly on the gas pedal and I’ve never once felt the need for ECT. That’s driving in the passing lane, speeding most of the time, not babying it in the slightest.

I stepped on it to pass on a wet road the other day around 40 mph and the tires were spinning as I accelerated past the vehicle I was passing. Stock 265s, 30PSI.

Driving this thing as a truck, I have no idea how people are complaining about the power. People talk shit about the TRD components all day, but is the Pro really all that different power output wise than a Sport/OR? I can’t imagine my TRD cat back adds 40hp or something.

My daily driver before this was a slightly modded VW TDI, 2015 and my toy car was a 135i twin turbo in-line 6, fairly heavily modded to just over 450hp on the ground, rwd in a very light car with significant weight reduction. I also raced motorcycles for a few years. It’s not like this is my first vehicle with no data points to compare.

Maybe it’s just people using shit gas and switching to premium in some areas is actually more like standard gas in others? I know in some spots in the Middle East the quality of the fuel was atrocious and everything ran like shit on it. Maybe dirty air filters or shitty DIY?

Cause there is no way I can see my factory Pro being miles away from a factory OR or Sport.

I use ethanol free regular. The ethanol free fuel actually has more btu's vs crqppy 10% mix, so it really does make more power.

I have towed in those conditions... This truck has a very large cooling system and the engine coolant never goes above 200 while towing my toy hauler in any temperature. I have never had predetonanation

Agreed. I was just saying in a situation like that it certainly couldn't hurt to have the higher octane.

I understand that the tranny opts for the highest gear possible for best fuel economy, but I kept my foot in it the other day, and holy cow! I was amazed at the power the engine delivered at higher revs. I understand now that the power is there when I need it.

I usually tow on 87. I stick 91 in after I fill the generator and gas cans. I feel no difference with 91 except for my credit card balance

Find no ethanol gas using the site or app pure-gas.org. Many listed in MA.

The closest place to get ethanol free gas by me is at a Marina. Wanna guess how much more expensive gas is at a Marina?

I tried running premium fuel once in my 2017 and it did not like it.
No problem, regular fuel it is!

I know of 10-11 local stations that carry it, the closest is about 1/8th mile away. I use it when I put my vehicles and lawn equipment into storage and in my 2 stroke motors.

I know of one place locally that carries 110 octane but it's around 8 something bucks a gallon.

The Atkinson cycle still needs air, so I installed a CAI. Now I'm looking at a URD -Y pipe and a MBRP cat back.

After reading these posts and doing some research, I have some questions.

Does the Atkinson Cycle need back pressure to keep the exhaust gasses in the manifold or do the valves hold it in?

Would the new exhaust let the gasses flow out so the ECU allows more fuel to come through the injectors

Would the ECU compensate? if not would the Atkinson stroke be too lean?

If I drank four 5-Hour Energies, would I get 20 hours of continuous energy?
