Current truck is stock. 6MT 4x4 TRD OR.

Question: As tire/suspension deals are upon us...

#1: I'm debating on leaving my truck stock, and putting on 17"TRD 4runner rims with 265/70/17 on stock suspension, with soft topper/campershell/bed storage platform.

#2: 275/70/17 with 6112/5160 and upgraded leaf pack, etc.

My stock tires, have less than 5k left, might as well pull the trigger.

I want it to still be a Daily Driver, and know weight is the real kicker on these trucks, especially since I don't want to regear.

The suspension is to soft for my liking, even with my wife and I, and a few camping items.

So, is it worth putting all this extra dough into the truck, or just drive it stock, with the wheel/tire upgrade I wanna do?

If you are like me, just researching on suspension and future mods will only make things worse as that tends to make the itch grow. If that is the case, I would try to forecast a decent budget for what you want. Good thing about these trucks is there are a lot of options out there at different investment intervals. You would be surprised how much fun it is to have some adjustable coilovers with compression adjusters.

You might need some slight trimming with the 275s, but you should be good without a CMC. I would get tires, then look into suspension and see what floats your boat. I have kings on my ride, but I have my truck built different than most.

If I do #2 is it going to ruin daily driveability? From.what I've read, the 6112/5160 seems like it's a bang for the buck deal, unless your going stage 3+ Icon, etc.

I think billys could be what you need for your ride. They should be an improvement over what you are running now.

How high do you want to be? Enough to clear 275/17's? #2 would be a good option. Or you can upgrade the suspension to an adjustable coil over such as Icon, King, Fox, or OME Bp51.

2" over stock. Icon, king, fox, ome sound nice, but they are definitely more $$$, and is it really worth it, if I'm going off-road on weekends and not at high speeds?

I really don't have plans to add a lot of weight to the rear of the truck.. 300#, +/-

I hear ya on the price, but they are worth it. You can save on cost by not getting the reservoirs, in your case, you wouldn't need them. I guarantee that ADS, King, Icon, Fox and any other style shock like them will ride better on road than any Bilstein style shock. It's all about user preference though. Since you're only going 2", you can save by not needing aftermarket control arms and only doing and add a leaf in the rear. Marie from @HeadStrong Off-Road can set you up with a great suspension package. There's also the Holiday deals now too, so great time to buy.

Good advice here, although I think HS wont have any deals as they have their prices set to be competitive year round. I had my kings set at 2-1/4" for a while before upgrading my front and had no issue with my UCAs. I agree that non-resi coils will be a great investment for the truck!

So you think a stage 1/stage 2 from Icon would be better than the 6112/5160 set up? Seems like both are comparably priced..

Lifting first followed by other mods that add weight will add more work and money (long term) if you have to replace springs to account for the extra lbs. Depends on what you plan on doing to with your truck, mods and usage. Sounds like you use your truck off road very minor. The 6112/5160 would likely be overkill for you. Stick with the 5100's they will be more than adequate for you. The stock suspension will get you anywhere you need around Oceanside Ca. anyhow. Keep it cheap if you MUST lift before everything else. Just my opinion.

Well, I'm on a road trip right now, and found out my limits on the truck. At discount tire outside of Glenwood Springs, CO, and wonder if I should just buy the 275s or 265s 17s. One would need complete $2000 Suspension, the other wouldn't need any.

I just plan on throwing a shell on, and bed platform with drawers.

Just sucks the suspension is soft of these trucks.

Good ol' Glenwood Springs, CO. my second home. Family lives there  You best get some armor if you've found your limit up there bud! If you gotta press your limits RIGHT now, I guess get the 16's. Better tires over stock is a great improvement as is for serious wheeling. Good luck man!:headbang: Edit: Both would be a great upgrade, obviously tires and suspension would be better. But just better tires would also be amazing over stock and a lot cheaper.

It might look funny depending on how the tires fill the wheel well, but I don’t think you would need much lift to fit the 32s if you don’t plan to wheeel for a little bit. I would say to invest in some good coilovers so you can adjust the front to the height you need instead of Billy’s and then some lift accessory.

It would be a better shock and easier to make adjustments as well.

I have the the 6112/5160 set at #5/#4 setting which is 1.5", but sometime later next year I'll move it to the 2 inch setting. Running 255/85/16, stock UCA (for now) and AAL with overload left out.

The icon 1 and 2 is pretty similar in price and both being digressive setup. Biggest difference is icon is a true coilover and adds more lift vs the Bilstein is not and only adds 2". Icon you can rebuild and Bilstein You can't and you buy a new setup. Went this route because it was either Kings or what I have now. The Bilstein is a very capable on and off road. You will enjoy it on the highway/commute for work.

Go to the suspension section and do a lil research before you pull the trigger.

I saw that you switched from the Wildpeaks in a 265 size to the Cooper skinnies back in September. I am in the same delimma deciding between these 2 tires. I have the same lift as you but still stock 16" wheels. Are you still happy with the skinnies? did you notice a big difference with the heavier tire with power and mpg? Thanks!
