I was getting parts from a Tundra last week and I heard the forklift coming towards me. I glance over and it's a brand new unmolested Tacoma. I look behind the forklift and there's a group of about 4-5 Mexicans following it. I managed to strip the interior and doors but they got the whole engine and tranny out in less than 15 mins.

I physically cringed when I saw the guy take a sawzall to the main wiring harness to the ECU.

    1. I changed my spark plugs and wires using the TW sticky guide (first time doing it myself!) and I was surprised how easy it was. Wish I had learned this skill 10 years ago. Some points of clarification: I did not gap the spark plugs, but I did check the gap on each. Since they are dual-electrode plugs and the end of the electrodes are concave you have to measure using the side of the wire gauge. They all measured between 0.040" and 0.044" (I know this because the 0.040" slid in and the 0.044" wouldn't slide in). I used dielectric grease on the end rubber boot that makes contact with the spark plug, instead of the spark plug itself since the grease is non-conductive. I had 50,000 miles on my old spark plugs and they looked slightly worn, but still in decent condition.
    2. I changed the fuel filter. Sure, it's a lifetime part, and sure, my truck already drove without any problems... but on the other hand, it's a 30 dollar part and easy preventative maintenance. With over 300 thousand miles, it's worth it for the peace of mind.
    3. I also decided to repaint the center wheel caps on my stock 15" alloy wheels. The paint around the lug nuts was completely gone from Discount Tire using the pneumatic socket wrench without taking the time to remove the caps. I sanded the parts with 600 grit sandpaper to remove some of the old paint and smooth the plastic where it was bare. I put down 2 coats of flat grey Rustoleum spray primer. I put down 2 coats of Rustoleum metallic "brilliant metal finish" spray paint. I got a small sample of dark grey paint from Home Depot and used a 1/8" detail brush to paint in the logo by hand. It's not perfect, but it's good enough. Then I put down 3 coats of Rustoleum satin clear enamel. I'm quite happy with how it came out! In the future I shall remove the caps prior to taking it to Discount to have the tires rotated.

Today I continued pulling parts off the Taco. Pulled apart the shocks to assess the current valving. I have enough left overs that I can revalve without buying more shims. The shocks had #40 Comp and #90 rebound. The front of truck was bottoming out fairly easy, so I'm going to move to a #60 comp with 1 flutter stack. I drove over to Sdhq and grabbed the rebuild kits which have all the O-rings and bands. I'm glad I'm going through them, the oil looked terrible.

When I took the arms off I noticed the bushings were pretty torn up, with alot of material chillin in the cam adjustment slots. Sdhq didn't have a full bushing kit available so I might have to look elsewhere.

I have other plans this evening, so repairs will continue another day.
