Haha I was considering clear coating it. I wish I just clear coated the frame and such when I built it because I like the raw metal look Will probably just paint it black though to match everything else lol.

I cannot even fathom leaving something uncovered and not having it be rusted the next day!! If I didn't paint it/let something leak oil all over it, the part would be a rough brownish red color very quickly!

We leave all our metal outside covered and it just gets a light surface rust lol. But we don't have the humidity or the rain like back east.

Whos got the best deal on 9 in 3rd members? Trying to decide if I want to order one while ruffstuff has 100 dollars off. It would be their bronco bolt in axle but 65 or 66"wms. Get axle shafts from currie and probably their explorer brakes as well.

Got a lot of work done on the axle today. Should have it all welded up by tomorrow. Need to order 2 more new koyo trunion bearings and races though as the only ones I have are the cheap trail gear ones. Also cleaned a 14 bolt and Chrysler 8.25 which was a pain...

Welds aren't as good as ruffstuff but they are definitely getting better. Just wish I had a big to weld it all at once lol

Axles all welded besides steering stops and shock mounts. Will wait till it's full assembled to do those and finish the top knuckle ball gussets. Hopefully the new shafts come next week and I can get it all assembled the following week.

Wish I would have beveled everything a little more but welds are definitely getting better. Not ruffstuff good though since I had to do it in sections to prevent overheating the housing.

This axle is mini truck outers, 8 in center. The Ford 9 in would be for the rear since ruffstuff is having a sale on them but 3rds for them are so expensive. They said they could make their bronco replacement axle wider without any extra charge and I could get shafts from Currie and do explore brakes without spending to much money but 3rd members with an arb are 2000 so I'm going to hold for s while.

I have. Ive priced it out with gears and install and lockers and it just comes out to almost the same price. And I know local shops can setup gears and straighten a 9 in housing where I'm pretty sol on toyota stuff. People around here think they are made of gold and won't sell them for less than 800 dollars. Most the time 1000 though.

Yep. Or only want to sell it with the front axle or have a lunchbox locker in them. Normally don't see to many of the FZJ80 rear axles though. See a lot of the semi float drum brakes ones.

Here's one that's way to far away but still wants 600.

Car part or ih8mud classifieds. The unlocked rear should be pretty cheap. I think mine was 350 or something like that at a local junkyard, which is a steal for cruiser/Toyota parts.

Not if you buy a non-elocker axle

I don't have any, but I do carry a set of spare shafts and a set of spare hubs so that means I'll never break a shaft. I also don't have a trailer so this is to get me back home as well. I'm most worried about the hub studs, but there are fixes for that like upgradeing the studs and or using bigger bolts. Crawling in double low I would not worry though. I'm worried wheeling around here in the wet where you are using wheel speed and something grabs.

Thanks for info. I was going to try and stay away from different length shafts just so I can carry 1 that will work on both sides.

I've been thinking about drilling out my front hub studs to 7/16 bolts but then I would have to do my spares as well. But I'll keep my eye out for one as it won't be a while till I mess with the rear unless I sell this axle to help fund it lol.
