So I finally broke down and bought the gunmetal grey FJ TRD rims from Frank Motors on Ebay. I'm serious... my wife is gonna kill me when she finds out I did this ;)

Now I'm trying to decide in a good tire. Yes, I know, the good ol' topic of "what tire should I buy" BS that ya'll have read a zillion times over. Please don't pelt me with poo cause this one will be right to the point since I have a pretty good idea of what I want. Now it's a matter of asking those who have done it without me learning it the hard way and pissin my wife off even more

We just bought this truck a couple of months ago and I am wanting to have the TSB for the rear leafs done. When I do this, I plan on putting on some bilstein 5100's on the front and set them at 1.75 to try to level it all out. The question now is, do I go with the recommended 265 75 r16's that are the normal size or try something a lil bigger? I don't want to have to do any trimming but I want something to make it look more aggressive. I ride mostly highway miles but every now-and-then I get a wild hair up my butt and take it out for a good ol' mud runnin. Of course there is a budget involved and I'm looking at 3 brands currently. Toyo Open Country AT's, Nitto Terra-grapplers, and General Grabber AT2's. Is there anybody out there that is running this set-up and has experience with any of these tires? What would you recommend and is there anything that you wish you had done different? I'm all ears!

I just got 265/75/16 BFG AT's for only $6 more than the grabbers per tire at discount tire. I wanted the Grabbers but they were on back order so I told the guy I would go find someone that had them in stock so he cut me a deal on the BFG's to keep my business.

You might want to try that. I was going for grabbers because of the price but really wanted the BFG's the whole time.

Man I did the exact same thing :D I told her my tires were going to blow soon and I needed new ones. Then I told her it wasn't that much more to get brand new rims for the new tires. Put the tires on one card and the wheels on another :D Dam.... Why did I get married..... I had so much more money and free time when I was single.

So how much did they end up charging you total? I would like the BFG but they were a bit out of my price range.

When I can, I too am going this route. My plan is to get a set of 285s to replace the 265s, of course I will need the TSB fourth leaf, and then oh crap I gotta level this with billy 5100s. The rims arent so bad, but tire prices... ouch. Were it not for the tire prices I would have popped for this awhile ago.

Once I got mine in the wife was not too crazy. I powdercoated them black and put some BFG ATs on them and the wife digs them. I was happy she liked the finished product!

Perhaps you should kill her first. Your plans sound fine. Stick with 265's. You'd nee to lift it more and trim to go larger.choose any of the tires, they're all fine.

3" spacer/AAL lift, Toyo Open Country MT 265/70R17, Kenwood USB, Truxedo LowPro QT, Grillcraft w TOYOTA emblem...coming soon, Avid Offroading Sliders...coming soon.
I just went thru this process 1 week ago and decided on Toyo Open Country MT 265/70R17 (or for you 265/75R16).

The BFG KO was a good tire and I almost did it, but liked the aggressive look of the Toyo MT (not AT) better. It rides fine and most my driving is streets. The AT version of both tires looks too "street" tire for me. If you want the occasionally weekend mud'in, the AT might not be so good.

If you're only lifting your truck ~1.75, any bigger of tire will probably rub. Mine rubs a little during hard turns, but normal driving they're ok. I lifted my truck 3". Spacers might allow you to get a little better clearance. I have a set for sale if you're interested. They space the OEM wheels out 1.25"

I thought the exact same thing. Although I am finding that the Toyo MT's are a bit pricey ;) I'll have to do some harder searching to see if I can find a super nice deal somewhere. Oh, and when I ordered the FJ wheels, I did the bing thing and saved like 42 bucks! Not too shabby! Maybe I can use the $42 I saved to take the wife out to dinner when I break the news to her :D

I did something similar last year with a Ducati. I told her I bought it for her though ;)
