Ok so I know the a V6 Tacoma (my truck is 6speed) can tow about 6400. My question is I want to tow a 2016 Acura ILX from Vegas to Houston. Never driven down there before so I don't know how the mountains or hills are, going through the 10 freeway. Is the truck ok for that long of a drive. The ILX is about 3200 lbs plus what ever a trail is. Next question being a 1500+ mile trip is it better to a full trailer or just a tow dolly?

The trailer is your decision on the vehicle being towed. Do you care if 2 of the wheels are down for that long? Are those wheels flat towable?

That's not much weight for this truck. I have found that weight isn't the major issue for most towing. The drag of a large camper trailer is my major issue with speed, load, and mpg

I can only give a opinion, you have more than enough truck to do the tow job to Houston no worries there, I myself would load the Acura on a trailer equipped with trailer brakes to ensure a safe trouble free enjoyable trip!

Don't care about the Tires. Trading the car once we get set in Houston. The car is a 16 but I bought in June of 15. Tires are good still car is super low miles. I am renting a Full trailer from U-Haul. I have used the tow dolly before from Cali to Vegas and I didn't know until after that I could not back up with them. This long of a drive I am doing the full so I don't have any concerns on the road or in parking lots. Thanks for the info. Cant wait to get out there.

The only real thing, that time and weather is going to make this decision is taking the 40 through flagstaff and Albuquerque or taking the south and going through the 10. Leaving Vegas Dec 27th. Waiting to see how the weather will be.

The roads East of Albuquerque get nasty that time of year. Storms on I 40 turn it into a parking lot.
Keep an eye on the weather.

I like your rig! super nice trailer, looks like tongue weight is good even with load completely in front of axle!

Thanks! I did not have far to go so I ran the GC all the way to front of the trailer to help keep it from rolling. The progressive leafs really handle hauling loads, hardly any drop - little rough/bouncy when empty though.

I tow an Oliver Elite, about 4000# loaded. This summer I took six weeks to camp from SW Florida to the Olympic Peninsula and back. Stops included Glacier National Park, Olympic National Park, Oregon coastline, Tetons and many other very cool places. My 2013 TRD OR never lets me down wether towing or off road. 948E897E-2024-4E9C-985E-47A4AAC49B86.jpg

Moving out of my house and I had to move the trailer before my dad's Chevy 2500 Duramax was available to borrow. Hooked the taco up and it was definitely a bit much. Clocked in on the scales at 8,000 lbs total for the trailer, with 1,100 lbs on the tongue and another 150 or so in the bed.

Lucky it went all but 5 miles in super sketchy weather. Anything more and I would have just waited for a bigger truck. Took every bit of skinny pedal it had to get to 40mph on a short stretch of 55mph road and had to quit there due to a slight sway and the fact that braking while in the snow was downright terrifying with that much weight and no trailer brake controller.

Definitely an example of what you should NOT do with a taco.
