I’m getting ready to buy a certified, 2015 TRD Pro and am wondering what the deal is with third party warranties! I read a bit about them but didn’t totally understand. Does that mean I can buy the platinum warranty from someone other then the dealership I’m buying my truck from, if I can find someone who offers it cheaper? Or am I totally misunderstanding this whole third party thing?

Would you care to enlighten me? I’m buying it out of state and have to negotiate over the phone. So I’d kind of like to know what the deal is while I’m negotiating, to get best deal!!

have them email a copy of the warranty for you to read. or better yet, check with your credit union or insurance as tehy may have one as well at a cheaper price.

For starters, aren’t all certified Toyota warranties the same and platinum is just getting an extra year and 25000 miles?

All warranty coverages are different. Do your research. If you don’t like what you find after your purchase there should be a grace period to have your money refunded. Usually they will not give you cash, they pay it back to the loan.
A third party warranty would be outside of Toyota.
Go with the Toyota warranty over third party if available.

Certified extends powertrain to 7 years 100k instead of 5 years 60k

Also includes 1 year comp coverage or 12k miles.

Only extended warranty company I would buy is Toyota extra care

Yeah, my Toyota extra care replaced my defective calipers, but refused to replace the wear items, pads and rotors, that were destroyed by the defective calipers. ...
Just chicken shit logic, calipers covered, pads and rotors should have been covered too, they were ruined by the defective calipers!

I don't disagree it's chicken shit logic but the contract is extremely clear as to what it covers.

I understand that wear items aren't covered, but it was the failed calipers that caused the pads and rotors to become unusable.
There is a difference between normal usage, and failure because of a failed part.
What if it was clutch failure from a blown seal leaking oil on it?
The seal would be covered, but not the clutch as a wear item...

Your absolutely correct however it's the nature of the beast.

In a perfect world a 2 to 3k warranty would cover that way but too my knowledge none of them do.

I have to deal with aftermarket warranty claims on a weekly basis and they will do the absolute bare minimum to cover a failed component.

A few of the companies will send us the cheapest possible parts to our dealership to save even more money.

The reason I said I would only buy Toyota extra care is personal experience. Factory parts will cover bulletins etc.

Third party warranty is a scam,do not buy it,instead save your money for in case you need a repair down the road,I learned that the hard way.I had the standard warranty,$1650 down the drain.

There are some good third party warranties. CarMax has a high end warranty that is Good and Hendrick Auto Guard has a high end warranty that is very good.
I have had lots of experience working with both of these warranty companies and would recommend them to my friends and family.
It comes down to your research on the warranty.
Saying that. I have worked with lots of warranty companies who come up with unreal reasons for not covering a repair.
    Proceed With Caution...

Good or bad, that one claim saved me $1000 or more between the new calipers and labor...

Call around, or check on line for the cost of a Toyota warranty. When I bought mine in 2011 I got the Platinum warranty from a Toyota dealer at about 60% of listed rate.

There is a thread here of where to buy toyo warranties for the best price
They say u cant buy out of state but i can be done

If you buy one its up to you but I would only get a toyo warranty that way no matter where u are you can take it to any Toyota dealer
