If the fins aren't contacting each other at ride height you're in pretty good shape. Looks like the last one is kissing the inside a little when the axle droops. That's about how mine always look and no issues yet.
Guys will stretch them out further down the axle when they're set at a bigger angle. There's a big thread somewhere on here about the mod and tons of discussion.

I'll have to get a closer look at the inner most part of the fins there are touching. That's the only spot I really not sure about. If yours look similar and have no issue, that's good to hear!
Ah yeah I've heard of it. Seems to be the way to go if you wanted to lift even higher. Might look into it at some point. Especially if I wanted to lift the front more. Gotta see once I put the new leaf packs in though. I am expecting rake, which I don't mind. But if the rake is very pronounced, I'll consider setting the front a little higher. Who knows.

Yeah that's the one I've seen. I think I understand what it's doing. I suppose I could do this since I still have my OEM CVs lying around and their boots are in fine shape. Maybe.

I'll have to do something, be it that mod or lower the fronts a little. Seems the fins are touching, just not when it's parked I guess. This is the driver side. The passenger side shows this as well, but much more faint.

I assume even this seemingly small amount is no good, correct?

Makes sense. Got me wondering why mine are showing signs of touching, but they aren't when the truck is just sitting. Perhaps that's from the natural movement of the suspension and they rub only when the axle articulates? Can't imagine there'd be much overall touching then. If that's the case, do you think that amount is something I'd have to worry about?

Then I probably won't worry much about it. I will definitely keep an eye on them and may end up doing something with them anyway, but I am in no rush to address a likely very minor issue. And if they do start to wear more than ideal, I do have the other boots, so I won't be doing the boot slide mod on already-damaged boots should the time come.

Oh maybe I can't use the OEM boots on the NAPA axles. In the original TTORA thread for the mod, some guy is saying there is a slight different in design and they aren't compatible. Hmm. Well I'll address it if I need to.

    For the welding gurus:
I am gonna weld an extra cross chain or two to my snow chains.

Where/how would I clamp the ground? I'm thinking I have to clamp the chain i'm welding (clean of course) to the welding table for best ground connection.

Also have .030 welding wire loaded on from Bryan's last project. Should I switch to 0.024?

@Blackout14 where is the pinch weld you were telling me about? For some reason I think you are right about about.

It does, but it’s smaller. Could be good or bad depending on your setup I guess.

Correct. Clean and put the ground on the link you will be working with and you should be good to go. .030 wire will be fine
