Truck Camping Photo Thread

Was at Lake Easton, WA a few weeks ago when the weather was just starting to turn. Over there now would be too cold and I think there is probably snow. I have since gotten a room to use as a tent for the ARB awning and can't wait to try it out.

 

Is that a Eureka tent? If so what model and are you happy with it? I just sold my RTT today and have been looking at the Eureka tents. More specific the assault outfitter and the timberline models.

Has anyone done a sleeping bag group buy?

I'm in need of a new sleeping bag very soon. But they seem expensive! I've been happy with my current 0 degree slumberjack but would like something a bit better I guess. I was interested in some models that slumberjack had but they are all out for now.

I've been looking at these...

The Kuiu sleeping bags. Expensive. They did have a deal going on though. But I let it expire I think....

The Kifaru Slick Bag which is the one I'm leaning towards if I could get it a bit cheaper. I like that the outter linner is a bit tougher than most.... and the center zip maybe?...

I've also looked at Big Agnes. Which I do like a couple. But the ones I like are heavy.

I'd like a 0 degree bag maybe a 15 degree bag.
I don't think I want down.
It doesn't have to be super light but I'd like to think I will take it on a backpacking trip.
I'll mainly use it for truck camping.
There are too many options and I can't figure it out.
I can never find anything I like in stores either.

Any recommendations?

One recommendation I'll give is to not attempt to merge your "truck" sleeping bag and your "pack" sleeping bag unless you really expect to be backpacking in 0F weather.

For the truck/tent it is nice to have a bigger, fluffier bag and you had really no concern about weight or compaction. That usually means you can get a pretty inexpensive bag that will do the job even in colder weather. 0F or even -20F for less than $150.

For backpacking if you are like most folks it is unlikely you'll be deciding to backpack in conditions worse than +20F. So you can get a warmer rated bag that is a lot lighter and compacts better. You don't need to break the bank here but now looking at things like down makes some sense and since there is less down fill the bag is cheaper than trying to do a -20F down bag.

It has a good build quality - good ventilation and easy to put up but is is small!! I would in no way call it a two person tent if the persons are not married/whatever. It comes with all you need and although it is a good tent I am old and thought it was larger. I have since snagged a ARB room for my awning and will be trying that out since I can use a cot, set up my chair and have more stand up room, etc.....

Pulled the camper to Shawnee National Forest after visiting family in St. Louis for Thanksgiving. Unedited JPEG from the camera, can't wait to edit the RAW file so you can actually see the Tacoma.

Love going up there, fun little trails for my stock-ish taco. Have you done Swamp lake? That would be real fun in that truck, not as much in my new taco.

Headed out for some exploring this weekend, checked out Pioneertown on the way to a quick night in the Joshua Tree area before going shock tuning in Johnson Valley. Talk about opposites... JT was calm, serene, no wind, no dust, no worries. JV was packed, dusty, loud, full of idiots, etc.
