READ THE FINE PRINT, WARRANTY IS ONLY IF THE OEM PART A DEALER INSTALLED FAILED DUE TO MANUFACTURERS DEFECT! THERE IS NO WARRANTY ON DEALER WORKMANSHIP! SO FAR, I HAVE SPENT $20,000 IN LEGAL FEES OVER A $4,000 DEALERSHIP HEAD GASKET BOTCHED JOB! THE ISSUE IS, THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT INSTALL THE PARTS CORRECTLY, I FILED SUIT AGAINST TOYOTA ALSO, THEY ARE FREE AND CLEAR, BECAUSE THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT INSTALL THE PARTS PROPERLY! IF YOU READ THE FINE PRINT ON THE INVOICE YOU SIGN WHEN YOU PICK UP YOUR TRUCK, IT STATES, THE 1 YEAR WARRANTY ONLY APPLIES TO FACTORY DEFECTIVE PARTS AND LABOR COST IS NOT WARRANTIED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IF YOU DOUBT THIS, PAY MY ATTORNEY FEES!!!!!!!!

I AM DOING THIS NOT ONLY FOR ME, BUT FOR ALL OF US! PART OF MY COMPLAINT TO THE COURT IS THAT IF YOU ADD UP ALL OF MY COSTS, MONEY PAID TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS, THEN MY COST FOR REPAIRING THE DAMAGES DONE BY THE DEALERSHIP (REPLACING THE ENGINE), AND MY LEGAL FEES, I COULD HAVE BOUGHT A BRAND NEW TACOMA (OUTRIGHT IN CASH). THE DEALERSHIP KNOWINGLY DID NOT PERFORM THE EXTRA 10 LABOR HOURS TO DO THE JOB PROPERLY (I PROVIDED IN GRAPHIC DETAIL EVERY MINUTE OF LABOR THEY DID NOT DO)
IN ORDER TO INCREASE PROFITS. THE DEALERSHIP (ON RECORDED PHONE CALLS) ADMITTED SUCH. AS SOON AS I BROUGHT THIS TO THE DEALERSHIPS ATTENTION, THEY LAWYER'D UP! ASSUMING, I WOULD CUT MY LOSSES AND BUY A NEW TACOMA....

    WRONG!!!!!

    :)

    EXCELLENT POINT AND EXACTLY CORRECT!

But he has a shot. In my case, I sent and endoscope through the whole engine and have 100's of hours of GoPro vid of diagnostics, but I can coach him (hopefully) through the KEY points hehehehe :)

if you are still on speaking terms with the dealership. Start your phone recording, walk into the dealership, (go in acting completely dumb) ask to talk to the service manager,

    PLAY DUMB!

Say, "I am having issues and need your advice."

    explain your issues....

    let him talk....

    ASK ....

"Did you guys remove the engine when you replaced my head gaskets?"

    He will say "NO"

"Did you guys remove the upper oil pan when you replaced my head gaskets?"

    He will say "NO"

    ASK

"Well, did you guys at least make sure you machine my heads when you did the replacement?"

    He will say "YES"!.

Ask him "what were the machining specs?" he will most likely say uhm, urm, uh, rr, uhm,....what?

    Then deny you.

    Fun fact, admission of guilt!

You are never to machine the heads on a 1GR-FE according to Toyota Factory Service Manual. You are ALWAYS supposed to at least change the O-Ring on the oil pump when changing the head gasket. You can not do this without at least removing the upper oil pan.

I bet anything, engine failure was due to oil starvation!

Check the freeze plugs for heat tabs. Heat tabs mean engine replacement. also, have your buddy check the fly wheel for paint. if painted, engine was replaced. also, if the head gaskets were replaced by a dealership ,the gasket material on the timing cover will be black. if it is gray, the timing cover was never removed. check the bolts on the fly wheel, do they have marks from a wrench or socket? where heads cleaner looking than the block?

I don't think it is ok to record people without their permission is it?

Anyhow, thanks for all the info, you are definitely a wealth of knowledge on this situation. I have an '05 with 115k on it with the '5' at the beginning of my vin...hoping she holds up fine with the head gasket fear looming in me.

OP, watching and waiting, good luck here.

    OME and worth every penny.
the dealership's answers aren't admissable but it could play out that he asked the proper questions. If feeling hemmed in, Toyota could then ask for the answers themselves. If it was done improperly, it would help.

I assume all this was in the service manual for proper headgasket change?

Perfectly admissible in the state of Texas. Recording conversations requires "one party consent", and he qualifies as the "one party".

That's not entirely true, it depends on the state and A LOT of different factors.

Why wouldn't they be admissible? Just curious/playing devil's advocate. What if the dealership was a party to the case?

You should delete all social media posts you make relating to the topic of a lawsuit.

It will bite you in the ass if you have to sign a non-disclosure upon settlement.

You're correct, not entirely true, but tough to get in without jumping through a fair number of hoops.

Based on his behavior here, I would say the guy's case is in the shitter or he's not the sharpest tool in the shed. The first thing your lawyer would do is tell you to not post all over social media if there was ongoing litigation.

    UPDATE:
I called Toyota Corporate this morning, opened a case and expressed my grievances. I have a case # and am awaiting a call back from one of their corporate managers.
My mechanic has not torn anything down on the engine. He is just helping me through the process as to what might have happened and what needs to be replaced, when the time comes.
The dealers are being dicks and are not of any help.
    .......just a waiting game, now.
