Cam Sensor RECALL Service Complete !! ( CA registration done too - $405 - ouch!! More than last year - Thx Gov Brown !! ) Service took 4 to 5 hrs to do. Serv Writer said its internal and not external like a Crank Sensor is. Must be under a valve cover right on the cam. Anyway, glad thats all done. On CALI - Yes, I've lived here my entire life (55 yrs) and will be headed to WA in just 3 years to retire but watching whats happening there and other States the CA Craziness is spreading. By the time we get there it will probably be the same. ( Less the heat, crowd, and property/housing cost )

Nice way to paint all Californians with a broad brush. Just because we live here doesn’t mean we are liberals or we are not decent potential neighbors.

Lol here we go again. I've got nothing against anyone FROM California. I know plenty of great people out there. My statement was a joking one. Just tired of those with that lib-tard mindset moving here. It's definitely not all Californians, but you guys must have something in the water out there...

Apologies for the thread hijack, but I see at least a few Third Gen owners that seem to be indicating they need to get their trucks smogged at their next registration renewal.

My 2017 Off Road is the first non-diesel vehicle I have owned in California since 1995, so I may be way out of touch, but I thought brand new vehicles purchased in CA were given a 5 year exemption from smog checks at registration renewal. Is this no longer true?

    Thanks

You're one of those people who take everything personally. Just like the typical Californian.

Good question. I've yet to have my 2013 needed to be smog checked, maybe next year is the year

I don't think that OP had to do a smog check. The DMV looks gor any smog related recalls before they will let you update your registration. If there is one, and you can't prove it's been corrected then you can not register until the recall is completed.

Can’t you get a temporary certificate? I believe when I was a smog tech in Cali, if a car wasn’t able to pass or go thru we could allow 30 days until the necessary repairs could be done. Just a little red paper that goes into the back window

Glad you got the service done, but can you clarify what sensor you had installed with a part number? I didn’t think there was a recall out for anything other than the crankshaft position sensor. It’s likely your service writer is ‘confused’.

I’m assuming you called around and another dealership had it?
