That sucks, but that is why you have insurance on you rental, and that’s the same gamble you take renting to anyone, Section 8 or not. He has work to do, but that’s owning rental property. When we owned several places, we had issues, but we also did background checks and credit checks. This time he gambled and lost.

You know, I'm a pretty big hippy... but also a NIMBY. Why on earth would you consider turning your house over to section 8?!?!?

    What did we learn?

I think he definetly may have skimped on the back ground checks, it's hard for me to see a person living like that be any different before. So surely they had a bad rep from previous landlords etc.
Hard for me to understand people that destroy properties, I like taking care of things, regardless whether it's mine or not. It's a matter of trying to be a decent person and taking pride in doing good or the right thing.

Also if that is or was indeed section 8.. That low life just made anyone else on section 8 and truly needed the help look really bad in others eyes.

The GF's uncle has a huge multi-floor foyer in his house, and they usually have a tree about that size in there.

Probably check back ground and stay on top of YOUR property.. I'm sure there's plenty of good people on section 8, that would be thankful to be able to stay in such a nice house. And would take care of it.

We rented to a person using section 8 for two years and they where a bit of a pain at first, but they ended up being great and only left because they found a job in another state and would make enough to leave section 8 housing. Over all a good experience. We also rented to some people from very well to do families from a certain Windy City that figured over the holidays they would turn off the heat to save money on the bills and burst the pipes. Then they shut off the power in may and left a fridge full of food to rot and we had to toss it. Their parents were not happy with the letter from our lawyer asking for the $4500 dollars we spent to fix their kids messes as a response to their letter asking for the deposits back.

That's where they cook pizza in a bowl for some reason, right?

Some first time rental owners have high hopes and expectations for their experiences. I will not rent out a house I've invested my heart into because no one will love it like I did, so for me it was better to sell properties I've owned instead of getting upset with tenants when they don't take care of something they are renting. That video makes me think that this was a "starter home" changed to rental when they ran out of family room. It's hard to manage the property when you have so much emotion invested into it.

    I wasn't talking to you!

    I agree. I prefer a hand-tossed crust cooked on a screen, personally.
