CA DMV Refused to Renew Registration on 2016 V6 TRD

I took mine to the dealer this morning because California said they would not renew my registration without this fix and it's due by the end of December. The dealer said this part was on back order for several months at least. They said I could sign a waiver to release the truck and they would call me to get the part replaced when it was available. I found plentiful amounts on this site and the dealer said they would reimburse me me and install the part for free. My own leg work FTMTW.

When I moved to CO, I had to get registration as mine was expiring (this was Nov/Dec a long time ago). But it required a smog test. Problem was nobody had the equipment to do a smog test and nobody would do a smog test because the next year they were removing the requirement for smog tests and would no longer require them. So I had expired plates for a while as well. Nobody ever pulled me over.

Car owners living outside of the following counties generally are not required to undergo a smog inspection:

• Boulder County
• Broomfield County
• Denver County
• Douglas County
• Jefferson County
• Some parts of Adams, Arapahoe, Larimer, and Weld County

California just got a little easier on the smog issue. (starting in 2019) New cars won’t need a smog for eight years. And cars 35 years and older insured as collector cars it’s a little easier on the smog.

 

Again I forgot about the Denver greater area since I hate Denver. HAHA. But you are right. When I bought my tacoma in Denver they gave me an emissions voucher. I told him we dont have emission test in el paso and he said that his records show that we do require emissions so online data is not always right.
