Remind me to text you a pic of my steel skid after the last AOP trip. Think you’ll change your mind about aluminum.

Agree. Steel is the way to go. My front IFS skid took a beating at AOP, but is otherwise in great shape. Not sure I’d put the same confidence in aluminum.

Gotcha. I’m looking for something in a 17” diameter.

By the way, a few of us are hitting Windrock next Saturday. Feel free to bring that thing and let us watch you thrash it.

I am now of the opinion that 3/16” without gussets is not enough. I really like the design yours has.

I am going to try to straighten mine out and add some kind of reinforcement for the flat sections with 1”x1” angle. Also want to gusset the bends.

@The Taco Bear If I were buying new skids for a second gen, think I’d grab a 1/4” BAMF skid. Think 4x also offers a 1/4” version.

3/16 steel is plenty. The all pro skid I had was 3/16, took a beating and did it's job. It's a skid plate it's supposed to get mangled up, 1/4" would be insane heavy and overkill.

I’m still on the fence. 35’s or 34’s?

At all cost, I want to avoid accommodating Fred Flintstone cut and chop. But, I want to maximize ground clearance. 34’s seem like the happy medium.

I think we talked about this at AOP. Mine got bent pretty badly. Yes, it did it’s job, but seems like before long it will be hell to get on and off as it gets bent more. Already experiencing some of that.

Although, wrestling a bigger skid would not be fun either. Idk.

This is what Carter is talking about.
These are mine. They may or may not be overbuilt, but I have beat the shit out of them and they have held up really well.

I had to have creative use of the jack to get mine on and off, but that was only once every few years or so.

I recommend getting a trans jack, that way you will have it for when you install dual cases in a few years. :D

Right now I have a pretty good system of getting the skids on/off using a bucket I cut down o the right height. Pretty easy before I bent the skid.

Ha ha. I think I already told you to hush about that.
