Areas where I can grab material. Sometimes it's an old mining site or it may be the bank of a hill with decent material. BLM has areas where you can actually go get material for free called a "community pit". But there's a limit on how much you can take without getting a permit. Often times the local agencies will grab a load or 2. You gotta have your own equipment and it's usually not processed unless it's an old mining site with some old tailing piles they want to get rid of as part of the rehab process.

Tired. Figured out a way to use the same stand for my screen and grizzly with minimal hassle.

Should get all the bars in tomorrow, move it out of the way and hopefully get the brush bunks started. If all the steel came in I should have everything finished by the end of the weekend. I still need to do about 2 days of paperwork for the end of the month reports.

First post I make in a loooong time and I get a head smack! I must be living right!

    And turtle is delicious!

Home made pot pies are the key. Home made crust, with real food inside. Far removed from the Banquet trash we got served as kids.....
Pot pie, just substitute your wild game of choice for the chicken. Make sure it's cut into bite size pieces and brown them first...

Tree rats are a bugger to skin without getting hair on the meat. Only the legs really have much meat and the rear ones at that. I soak them in salt water overnight then rinse well. Grill on low heat and yes bbq sauce on them is good. Never had them wrapped in bacon hmmm....

That is a beautiful bacon weave in that picture!

Mind you it has been a long time since I skinned a squirrel but used to gut slit around legs and butt and above the shoulders around the neck and then just peel the skin off like a glove .. But that could be for a rabbit or coon too it has been a really long time .

Oh look a youtube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4c8OyexZ10E

Hell that way is easier then what little bit I can recall .

Ate quite a few when I was a kid. We just stewed them. I could see pot pie except I don't care for pot pie.

That is called case skinning, I used to do that for fur when trapping. And yes those greasy arse coons. Do it on squirrel too but there is something about their damn hair that gets on the meat. On the other hand when I was younger it didn't seem to bother me and would just pick it off one by one. Now it pisses me off. Then again damn near everything pisses me off anymore. Shit I might be turning into a grumpy old man...

Same here and also not a fan of pot pie. Many many critters ended up as stew when I was a kid. Once in awhile Mom would fry them up in batter. Those were some of the best. I still do that. In bacon grease now of course.

    Good Morning.
Temps were in the low 20's yesterday, today, low 40's. Maybe low 60's later today.
I'll hunt for a few hours this morning then take care of the leaves for what I hope is the last time.
