This is why I built my new skids out of 1/4 inch and I still bent them more at aop.

Seriously thinking of doing this. AND the sheet metal mod. Cut the frame right behind the line of the firewall and extend 2". Piece of cake. Another added benefit is longer engine bay.... possibly fill the fender gap with 1.75 tube...

 

Tubbing the fender well was harder than building a new front frame for my truck. Goddamn that sucked!!

Thinking about painting those side trim pieces black... they stick out like a sore thumb with the darker seat covers. I could have gone with light grey seat covers, but they would have been way too white colored.

 

Yeah fuck some sheet metal work. It's so tedious. I just wanna weld some shit!! Haha

And a solid axle is old and boring. Old technology, fact. Boring, subjective. But I don't know too many people with solid axle fronts who drift around corners at 40 mph and enjoy it. SA has a very specific job, to flex laterally, and it does it fucking well. Everything else, IFS does better. I'd rather not set my truck back 100 years in suspension technology.

 

If I wanted a sas I'd buy a jeep. Pop did I just say that... did I just do that.... damn I'm boring. Sometimes you have to just build /buy a couple just to meet your needs for the application.

 

Good point depends on use for sure, leafs do bring the suck in the quicker off-road stuff.

I love a lot of SA stuff. It will just never be on my truck. Different application.

 

It's primarily county roads with some off shoot power line trails etc back to the falls. Look up ( Hitchcock Ln. Savannah TN. )

 

Looks like it passes near the water. Might be perfect to take the kids out for a ride and some fishing with minimal risk of getting broke down on the trails.

 

Old technology...like leaf springs, drum brakes, manual transmissions...bring your truck into the 21st century and fix all this shit.

 

I'd agree...some of the videos etc. shows lake shore access. There's supposed to be hiking trails to the top of the falls also.

 

Don't forget the bias ply tsl's!

 

Leafs in the rear work fantastic, there is no modern solution for them and they will be around for forever, drum brakes in the rear are gay as fuck but fine as you really only use the front, manual trans is old tech and fucking fantastic and probably the single most pleasurable thing about driving a vehicle.
