I know for a fact that a tape deck was standard equipment on the last of the 1st Gen Tacos (2001-2004), with a blank space above it to install a CD player if the customer so desired. Beginning in 2005 with the 2nd Gens, a single-CD player became standard, with a 6-CD changer on higher-end models. For some reason, Toyota did not add an AUX input until 2009.

I'm going to be honest here...

If I didn't love having a backup camera so much, I'd have a head unit like the one in the picture below...

I think that USB provides the highest-quality sound, but if "calibrated" properly, a cassette adapter will provide high-quality sound as well. My uncle's 1971 Volkswagen Bus has an older JVC cassette deck and new Pioneer 6x9s, and it sounds great!

I'm 99% sure I've seen pictures of the above type of head unit installed in a 2nd Gen Taco, but I'm wondering if anyone on TW has actually installed one before?

CLICK HERE to see the head unit I've had in my Taco since May 2016!

    @Plain Jane Taco

Meaning of the term Static Bouncer:

Just about everyone on TW (and anyone in the world who has a driver's license) has probably seen old/retired/backup police cars that are strategically placed in an area known for speeding. In my area, it's almost always a 1998-2006ish Crown Vic. When people see the police car in classic "speed trap" position, they slow the hell down...

Well, if you were a drunk bar patron and you see a 6-foot tall/240lb guy wearing a shirt with the bar's logo on it who is just standing there with his arms across his chest, what would you do? 95-98% of people just keep walking. The remaining 2-5% think I'm an actual bouncer and ask me if it's okay to use the bathroom (to which I respond by saying yes and pointing down the hall), or ask to see my manager because they are dissatisfied with the condition of the bathroom (It's after midnight on Thanksgiving Eve; I'll buy you a beer if you can find a bar with a spotless bathroom).

I was about 4 months short of my 8th birthday when Hey Arnold! first debuted on Nickelodeon in November 1996. I first started watching the show in 1997, and without a doubt it was my favorite Nicktoon from probably 1999-onward. I now have Hey Arnold!: The Movie (2002), Hey Arnold!: The Jungle Movie (2017), and all 8 seasons of the original series (1996-2005) on iTunes!

The first time my dad moved after joining the Navy was from California to Pennsylvania. My dad's daily driver, a 1983 Toyota Celica GT that he'd owned since new, was 7 years old. My mom's car, a 1985 Ford Escort that she'd bought new, had no A/C. My dad also had a 1978 MGB and a 1983 Datsun 280Z. They decided to sell all four cars and buy a new one when we got to Pennsylvania. He bought a brand new 1990 Toyota Camry LE V6 for my mom and a 1986 Mazda B2000 pickup for himself. When we moved back to California in 1996, the Camry was shipped by the U.S. Navy for free, and we drove across country in my dad's back 1996 Nissan Pathfinder SE 4x4 (with a portable TV/VCR rigged up in the backseat for me to watch movies).

When we moved to Virginia Beach in 1998, my dad sold the Camry and drove the Pathfinder across the country with his brother while I flew with my mom.

When we moved to Washington in 2000, the Pathfinder was shipped for free and we drove back across the country yet again in our brand new GMC Safari conversion van.

When we moved back to Virginia in 2002 (Northern VA/DC metro this time), the Pathfinder was shipped and we took the conversion van again.

When we moved to Pennsylvania in 2005, there was no point in shipping either of our vehicles (the 1996 Pathfinder and a 2004 Honda Odyssey) since it was only a 3-hour drive.

My dad retired in 2007 and we've been here in PA since 2005, though we've lived in 3 different houses...

Does Toyota only check the frame by the cats? That area seems to be one of the better looking areas of my frame.

I was told I needed the treatment for my 2010 access cab back in August? It was 5,000 miles ago at my last oil change...I am at 131K I called for a power steering repair issue/leak (metal pressure line rusted out and was weeping and needed replacement) and they said I am also due for the frame spray and they had an opening. I asked detailed questions about the process...
He said they use a high pressure scaling air hose to descale the rust from the frame INSIDE and out....they then plug/fill and spray the interior of the frame and then the exterior....I took pictures before and after so I can see what it looks like and can see how long this stuff lasts...I usually spray the underside with a hose all the time and drive through puddles for the free under carriage wash...

This is the rust I had...

And here are some post- spray pics...It's everywhere and very oily/sticky...my guess is your first trip down an unpaved road/sand is going to cover this thing in dirt.

Also, I think I might have to call up the newspaper and tell them to stop blindly throwing the paper at my house. This would not be the first time the paper has ended up in the bed of my Tacoma!

One time I went to work and it wasn't until several hours later that I happened to glance in the bed and see the newspaper just sitting there.

I called up my mom and asked her if she'd gotten the newspaper. She said she hadn't, she looked all over for it, and was about call the newspaper to voice her annoyance...

Another good reason to invest in a tonneau cover!

    Mystery solved...

Turns out my dad put the newspaper in the bed of my truck. I'm currently arguing with him. The last time he left something in the back of my truck, I ended up throwing out a perfectly good thing of pepper spray.

My dad is an avid runner and takes the pepper spray with him as a safety precaution. He opened the tailgate to do his stretching and put the pepper spray in the bed. Fast-forward about a day and I find it while at work. Not knowing where it had come from, I just threw it out...
