I just finished installing the All Pro remote resi's last night with several difficulties. After finally getting things figured out (instructions would have been nice) I snapped some pics to show that the remote reservoir lines actually end up interfering with the shock tower mount. I had to rotate the remote resi out toward the tire by quite a bit just to get the shock installed and am considering cutting away a section of the shock tower mount so that I can rotate the reservoir further away from my tire. I'm running a 17X9" tire with a 4.5" BS and have "maybe" an inch of clearance between the resi and the tire.

With the reservoir mounted as FOX has them designed, the 90 degree tube bends interfere with the shock tower mount as seen below. This is concerning because there is NOTHING in the FOX design that keeps the shock from rotating and hitting the tire. I'm thinking about drilling 2 small holes in the back of the shock tower (or frame area) and using a zip tie and running it between the 2 holes and around the fittings between the shock and the reservoir.

    Waddayathink?

    From the side, jacked up:

    100_0411_97317edf362ef204469261acdf6f09314821a015.jpg

I'll snap a few more pics later showing the proximity to the tire. It was late last night and I had a hard time getting the right camera angle with the tire on the vehicle.

So, is this shock REALLY designed for our trucks? I'd love for All Pro to chime in as I was told Sarah is running this on her set up.

I mounted the shock with a conical washer, a bushing, the shock tower mount, another bushing and the last conical washer, topped off with the Nylok nut. Something doesn't seem right. Sure hope All Pro will chime in...

Attached are some pics of how they are installed on my '08. The driver's side shock is rotated so that the reservoir is forward, and the passenger's side is rotated so that the reservoir is back. The allows for at least 1/4" of clearance between the fittings and the upper frame bracket.

Do you have the bushings above and below the upper mount? Also, once properly tightened down, the shocks haven't moved or rotated from how they were originally installed.

The bushings are one above and one below the upper frame bracket. The shocks are easy to move when they are not under load from the vehicle (i.e. jack stands under the frame and axel hanging loose). When there is a load, they are more difficult to rotate (if not impossible to rotate but I didn't really try too hard), but if wheeling and the wheel is hanging in air, suspension is flexing, etc... I'd be afraid that they could rotate.

At least the way you have yours rotated, if the wheels turn CCW, they'd hit the reservoir and push them back out of the way... I do have worse clearance on the drivers side...

I'm seriously considering taking a saw to the support and widdling a little bit of it away. Just enough to provide a little more clearance.

Sarah, have your shocks rotated at all? How many miles have you put on them?

They haven't rotated at all and I have about 25k miles on them and a lot of off-road trips where the tires were in the air! There arent' any marks on the upper mounts that would indicated any contact. Also, the tires shouldn't hit the reservoirs no matter which way they are mounted and my wheels have a 3.75" backspacing for reference.

you could notch a small spot out on the shock mount to get them angled the way you want.

That's EXACTLY what I plan to do. I'll flip my drivers side toward the front "just incase" it gets rotated, the tire won't rip it off. I'll trim off a minimal amount of steel and the shock should rotate quite a bit further away from the tire. The structural aspect of this mount won't be affected much at all. I think the trick will be to have a large radius in the corner of my trim job so that I don't create a stress riser or a sharp point where a stress fracture could start.

It appears that just one small hole through the side of the shock tower mount and I'd be able to run a black zip tie around the reservoir hardware to make 100% sure it will never come in contact w/ the tire.

I just thought that for ~$600 I wouldn't have to mess with this type of stuff.

More pics to come after I get some time this weekend to work on the truck some more. Wish me luck!

You really shouldn't have to modify anything. We've sold hundreds of these shocks and haven't had any issues with them whatsoever. I've never heard of the tire making contact, or of them rotating, or of the mounts needing to be clearanced. If you have a problem with them after you install them like mine, then let me know.

This is our exclusive shock with Fox. The one that they make for the Tacomas has the reservoir on the bottom, which we think puts it in harms way. We are out of stock right now, but once we get more in we'll double check them to make sure something hasn't changed from the ones that are on my truck.

I'd appreciate you checking the new shocks when they come in to see if anything has changed. My resi's are really close to the wheel but I'm running a 17"x9" wheel that is wider than your 16"x8" (this puts my tire 0.5" closer to the resi) plus my 4.5 inch backspacing allows the wheel to come another 0.75" closer to the shock than your 3.75" BS. That is a total of 1.25" closer my tire gets to the resi than your set up, (plus I've got the drivers side oriented closest to the rear bumper so I'm a tad closer there as well) so you may be able to appreciate how close I'm getting to the tire with the resi bracket.

May I also suggest a simple illustration go out with these shocks that shows the conical washer and bushing stack along with the orientation stating "drivers side forward, passengers side toward the bed"... or something like that.

I also have a couple of questions:
    1. What's the difference between the 1 thru 8 settings? Mine came on #1 and that's what I'm running around town.
    2. If I'm hauling 1500 lbs. plus, what setting should I aim for?
    3. What about when I go off road? That type of info would be really useful!

Finally, I'll do exactly as you suggested and snap some photos of the drivers side shock turned forward before I do any trimming and post the photos later this weekend. I still think I'll have to end up trimming a little (this won't be the first time a grinder has touched my truck) with my more aggressive BS and the wider rim.

Thanks for the help and taking the time to come on the forums to answer my questions.

Ive never had the 1-8 "technically" explained but the 1 will be the softest setting where 8 will be the most stiff. I have fox coilovers and I have them set at 4

switch it to 8 and drive around and see if you can tell a difference

I can tell a difference in the front coilovers. Street I usually have it at 2. Offroading at like 6. Althought I don't think 8 setting are necessary. 5 tops. But hey I'm not complaining. Are the rear shocks noticeable like the fronts?

I haven't played around with the rear 8 setting as of yet, still trying to get the kinks worked out.

Today I lifted the front end ~3/8 of an inch which is about as high as I'm going to go. I also took Sarah's advice and rotated the drivers shock forward and snapped some pics.

Side view of the drivers side rotated forward. This did buy me a little room.

It did buy me a little room, but not much. I still have a slight shutter upon take off (maybe from 0-10 mph) and need to install my carrier bearing drop bracket to see if that helps. If I'm lucky maybe tomorrow after work I can squeeze it in.

Also, still hoping someone from All Pro will chime in and answer my questions above.

One thing you did differently that I didn't do is with the cone spacer next to the shock. In my opinion you installed it "upside down". I thought that having the smaller diameter seat against the radius of the shock would cause stress issues and be bad for the shock. If I flipped my washer 180 degrees like yours, it would drop the shock down a bit and buy me more clearance, but without All Pro or FOX providing any FREAKIN' INSTRUCTIONS, who knows which way is correct... I'd be interested to see what others are doing... I thought it would be best to have the larger diameter seat against the top of the shock. This would lower my shock by ~.25" giving me a little more room to rotate it further away...

Also, you have fewer threads showing on top of your shock than I do. This also makes your shock lower giving you more clearance. I wish I knew how much to tighten the nut.

This is the way mine are installed:

    nylok nut
/ \ orientation of the top cone washer
    [ ] bushing
    --- truck shock mount
    [ ] bushing
/ \ orientation of the bottom cone washer (same as the top)
    --- top of the shock

    Yours appear to be installed:

    nylok nut
/ \ orientation of the top cone washer
    [ ] bushing
    --- truck shock mount
    [ ] bushing
\ / orientation of the bottom cone washer (same as the top)
    --- top of the shock

    Does that make sense?
