I know you will all be biased a little, but an open mind is great.

I have a 2007 2wd Tacoma 4 cy access cab 120k and a Volvo c30 80k, trying to simplify my life a bit and move into one vehicle.

The tacoma does not have enough power, want to move into a 6cy.

In 07, a tacoma was much cheaper than a full size truck, easy choice. NOW, they are basically the same price.

    I can get:

    2015 Tacoma 4x2 pre-runner access cab, 6cy, 6' bed, automatic, etc 20k - $24,500

    OR

    2015 Silverado 4x2 double cab(smaller doors) 6cy Eco, automatic, 6' bed, 10k - $21,500

I do not need 4wd as i live in SW Virginia and we see snow once every three years. The decision was easier when the cost of the full size was so much more, but now, they are the same. The Chevy drives like a suburban and the Tacoma drives like a mid size truck.

Gosh, i am super stumped! Any help would be great!

    Go with the 2015 tacoma

    (No bias here of course)

I have had very little cost with the Tacoma, I think most vehicles go to 120k without much worry, it's after that where it adds up. Do you have some insight on the running cost of a full size? This is what i was looking for when i asked, THANK YOU! Stuff i had not thought of.

Which do you currently daily drive? Is that the vehicle you put the most miles on per year?

Has the Volvo been reliable, low maintenance?

How do you use the truck?

Do you have a home or live in a multi family complex?

I agree with the value part, If i purchased the same truck for 07, now, it would be $10k more.

As for MPG - they seem to be very similar.

Be sure to check out the safety ratings and reliability history of the vehicles you are considering. Peace of mind has its own rewards.

    Great questions -

The Volvo has been reliable, I mostly got it as i was single at the time and i was coming from a MINI Cooper. I wanted a quick, fun car that was fun to drive. I just don't drive it like i used to. I drive my truck more.

I use the truck as a daily driver. To and from work, use it with my second job, wedding photographer. Need the space in the truck bed, like the cab for security reasons. I towed a trailer once, not really into towing. When i had a fixer upper home, i was always getting something that i needed. Water heater, lumber, mulch, endless list.

I was living in a single stand alone home, right now i am in a townhouse as i got married, sold my home and moved in with her. A fixer upper is in my near future. plan to move to the seacoast, might come down where you are, as i have a home in Venice.

I really couldn't care about the cost difference, it comes down to, which is a better vehicle long term? I am going to drive it 10 years or 120k, then realistically, trade it in for the newest model. I think the Tacoma will be worth more at that point, but maybe $2 - 3k, maybe?

You're really asking if a silverado is more reliable than a tacoma? How many older chevys you see driving around??

Is the Tacoma a TRD model? Off Road? Sport?

It's a TRD off Road, which kind of makes me laugh as it's a 2wd truck, BUT i am hoping my laugh gets replaced with a "HUH, i didn't know that" What makes the TRD offroad so special?

    What spec were You thinking?

For $29K I can get the 4x4 model with tons of bells and whistles of items i don't really need, then it's an easy choice, get the Tacoma. The 4x4 Silverado feels like a luxury SUV.
