I have been putting a wreath on the front of my truck since probably 2013 or 2013 and have never had a problem. I see other people do it all the time.

My mom is worried that the batteries will have some kind have adverse reaction from the engine heat and she's also convinced that the wreath will block airflow. However, knowledge of vehicles and of what's good and bad for the "health" of my Tacoma is one place I've definitely got them beat!

This is the first time I've put lights on the wreath. My parents know a lot more than I do because they've both been on this earth about 30 years longer than I have.

I initially made a compromise with my mom: Wreath can stay but lights have got to go. I told her I would get the opinion of the people of TW, because I really don't want to cut all the zip ties holding the lights in.

The set is rated for outdoor use, and the green box zip tied to the grille holds 3 "D" batteries which power the set.

    image.jpg image.jpg

So, I know the wreath is safe to leave on...

    Is the light set safe?

Having lights on it might get you the attention of the local police depending on the laws.

Your parents might be smart people who have been around for awhile, but they clearly don't know much about cars work.

Potential law issues aside, it's perfectly safe to have the wreath on the front of the truck.

Also, regarding the law issue: in most places it is legal to have external lighting as long as the lights are clear/orange/red. Blue/purple/green lights are what can get you in trouble.

I've been pulled over since then for making a left on a red light at a confusing 3-way intersection, on Labor Day weekend no less! I was so polite to the cop that I got off with a warning. The fact that I was driving home from my Grandma's and incredibly tired since it was like 11pm, and told the cop this, also probably helped a lot...

As for not pissing off my mom, I know more about cars than she does and it's not her name on the truck's title.

I've seen vehicles driving around with lighted holiday decorations on them. I honestly don't think law enforcement gives a shit as long as the lights don't resemble police emergency lights...
