A few OE parts from fancy trucks

Then I'd say you are on the right path. You can back down to a '13 with your shopping and still have a very nice selection and same 'look' as the '15. Maybe save a few bucks.

If you do move to Fl, you might find the current 4 you have to be just fine, as we're so flat. Just a thought. If that's the case, it would open up a 5 lug as a possibility. A lot cheaper and with very little effort, look nice. And it rides much more car like. Yet does Home Depot duty just fine.

Another idea, is there a 3rd vehicle involved here? The wife's? Any chance it's the one that should go instead of the Volvo?

    Just brainstorming.

BTW, I see the 2nd, and especially the 3rd gen Tacoma's as full size trucks of the recent past, dimensionally speaking. Park one next to a 10yo domestic to prove the point. Problem is, they have mid size truck load capacity and power. That said, if they meet your purpose, it's fine. Just don't shop it next to a domestic full size, as that's mixed fruit.

BTWII. I chose a 5 lug AC. Yea, it's a 4, but here that's all I need. I haul bikes, kayaks, HD store runs, etc etc just fine. It does all I need it to. I don't care that it doesn't sit high. Makes it easier to load and unload. I did change wheels and went up in tire size, which changed it's demeanor, ride and raised it up 1". Actually enough to notice. But still very car like in normal use, which works well for me. I don't care about looking tough, I care about function for how I use something. It does have the convience package (PW/PL/cruise/sliding window), and I've added the back up cam/mirror (prewired) and intermittent wipers. So now I have all the luxury I need. At a $10k less than a prerunner.

OK, You get the HUH, i didn't know that!

    What kind of locker?

I have had all kinds - The electro-kind where i flip a switch and it locks in, the air kind where it uses a compressor, and the limited slip, locks in when the wheels start to spin - comes out when you don't need it?

Comes with the factory TRD OR E-locker (electric locker) that uses a button on the left side of the dash to lock the rear

Back in 2015 I bought a 2015 Silverado crew cab LTZ. It’s all about the bells and whistles to me. Wouldn’t ever buy the Silverado in the V6 double cab spec. To small, too underpowered. Then again, so is my taco. Lol.

It comes down to do you need a full-size or mid size? Shouldn’t be that difficult of a decision although they both seem boring AF.

Just did a quick check of recalls and technical service bulletins, the Taco list is about 20, most of which are just informational...the 2015 Chebby has 376 of them, of which 13 are recalls, and that 4.3L motor is using a GDI fuel system...that's gonna be a hit to your wallet when it needs fixing. The 2015 Taco is the last year of the 4.0L port injected motors, but even their GDI engines 2016 and up seem to be put together much better...time will tell. Stay away from the Chebby in my opinion.

You'll get more value out of the Tacoma, which means it's a better truck than the Chevy.

Just for shits and giggles, go to a Silverado forum and ask their opinion..

You guys are HELPING TONS! BIG THANKS!!

I only selected a 15 as that was what i could find, locally within a few hours drive. I would be happy with a 13 as much as a 07, just wanted the power of the 6cy. We have lots of mountains here and the 4 really struggles. I find myself killing the MPG going up these hills.

I actually had to go look to see that mine was 5 lug. What advantages am i missing/not thinking of with my 5 lug? I use car touring tires, i am sure they are cheaper.

BTWII. I chose a 5 lug AC, 5 lug, i understand, AC? I do ALL the same things you are doing, i think my truck is a clone of yours, mine is Indigo ink. The MPG is within 2 mpg of the 6 cy, figured it would feel a bit sportier without loosing the mpg?

I would lean towards a full size truck if you need more room, more horsepower (even in a V6), towing, or better gas mileage. I looked it up and they average 18 city - 24 interstate. I would lean Tacoma if you want to get more when you go to sell it 10 years from now as others have said, have smaller areas you need to park, or just dont need a full sized truck. I think reliability for 120k miles should be easy for each truck. There are plenty of old chevys and plenty of old tacomas on the road. In the end pick what you want because you have to pay for it, not me

Well, the fuel economy is going to be a wash, and the Taco will likely be more reliable and hold it's value, but the Chevy is bigger and will be more comfortable, and probably haul/tow more (if that's a consideration). I'm 6'2" and I have to admit that there are many days that I wish I had a full size domestic truck.

Plus the 13' is arguably the best year for 2nd Gens. Toyota went cheap on the 14's/15's and ditched the nice auto-dim/compass/temperature rear view mirror

If you can handle the full sized truck in your daily life, it will suit you well. If you get annoyed by parking and radius of turns etc, get the Tacoma. IMHO both trucks are 200,000+ mile vehicles at a minimum with regular maintenance.
I am partial to the GM 4.3L because it's been around since 1983? Good MPG and Torque for regular driving and semi-often "truck use"
I also think that the Tacoma is a really nice truck.

I haven't driven a GM product regularly since 2011 so maybe the interior quality has come up a bit?

Besides that FANCY Mirror, are there any other reason's to look at a 13/14 vs a 15?

    Is a 6cy prerunner 2wd ok?

The 2014 forwent the rear view for the info-tainment system with rear view camera on the display which is nicer than in the rear view.
