Ok so i currently own an Alpine 0100 ipod model stereo, it's ok, but i'd like to upgrade to a dvd player instead...i've kinda narrowed it down to trying a kenwood system this time around...only problem is, is that i'm stuck on which one to get....i like both of these models below...

    Kenwood DDX512 http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?g=168550&i=113DDX512&tp=75

    Kenwood DDX712
    http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?g=168550&i=113DDX712&tp=75

I can't decide on which is better...i like the 512 for the fact it has a front aux and it's stationary, so no motorized screen to break...but the 712 does have a larger screen, and a few more features...anyone out there own any of these models and could help me out??

I have the 5120 (same as the 512 only has built in Nav) I like the fact it dosen't swivel and the smaller screen size isn't an issue it looks large as hell in the dash, Ill post pictures of it here soon.

Sounds great on the tuners amp alone, I have all Polk Speakers and it sounds great especially with the Ipod, The Ipod sounds the same as CD louder audio than the Radio or Sirius which both sound great as well, I really like the album art while on the Ipod input to. Hope this helps on your decision making...:)

You can't go wrong with the DNX8120.

yeah that looks sweet, but alittle out of my price range though...how is your model different from the 712, besides the navigation...i'm still torn, i like the clean looks of these vs the 512, but i'm still debating if that's worth the xtra money difference tho....

You know you can tilt the screen out flush w/ the bottom so you can get to those bottom buttons easier. Took me a couple days to find that feature as well, but makes a world of difference.

Do any of these units work with the steering wheel controls without the use of an adapter?

I think you have to have the adapter. I know for a fact there is no cable with the unit that will go to the steering column. So, my fairly educated guess is that you have to buy an adapter.

I don't know all the differences. Maybe the bluetooth and Nav? It also also 5V outputs.

I like the the screen tilted back. I think it helps reduce glare. The buttons are a little harder to use but not too bad. Most of what I do is on the touch screen and steering wheel controls.

Thanks for giving a tip though.

Addicteds' comment is correct. The steering wheel controls can be used, but you have to but an adapter.

hey guys...so i went with the 712 model...i just have one quick question tho, i'd like to bypass the ebrake for the dvd player (not for me, for my girl to watch on long trips)...did any of you guys do this with yours?...does a simply grounding the ebrake wire work on a kenwood?, i heard it doesn't work on some brands...or will i have to go say a toggle switch route?
also dumb question, but if say all i do have to do is ground it, what do i just hook the wire up to some misc screw or metal area?
