What is the Weight of the stock 17 inch rim?
    And 16?

With Tire and Wheel installed and at recommended tire pressure.

Trying to keep the unsprung weight the same or less when I do the rim upgrade.

    Thanks

Found this thread buried in the search. If anyone happens to have an answer, i would like to know as well. I have a prerunner SR5, would love to change the wheels but keep the tires (since they are new) and weight of the truck the same.

That is not the rim weight. That is the rim / with tire weight. Do you have a tire installation machine in your garage? If so hook us up with the weights.

    LOl funny guy. :p

I know tirerack lists the weight of the rims I want to go with. ASA is the lightest rim there at 23lb. However what is the stock 17 rim weight? If it is like 20lb then it would not be a smart move to change the rims.

No that is is tire weight + rim weight = total weight.

Rim weight is one component of total weight. You can change the size of the tires to change the tire weight.

I have called 2 dealers and both of them have no clue what the weight is. I even tried to convince one of them to take the one they had on display and remove the tire with no luck.

Please don't post unless you have helpful information

Finally found the stock 17 wheel weight. Took calling 4 dealers to get it.

Stock 2005-2009 Toyota Tacoma 17 wheel weight is.
    28.9LB

So the 18 inch 23LB ASA rims I was looking at are not only are lighter but can run a lower profile tire to gain performance.

Ya they are pretty heavy. The lightest rims I can find for us is ASA. The 18 inch rim is only 23LB.

So if you do more street driving then run a 18X8.5 with a 265X55 tire. This will give you more grip but not so much it hurts the MPG. Plus beign 55 it will save the rim but give you corner stability.

Just for kicks found the wheel weights for the X-runner 18inch rimes

Wheel weight is 31lbs - 32lbs (as advertised)
Tire weight is 29lbs (as advertised)
Wheel/Tire weight as weighed with 34lbs of tire pressure - 58.2lbs

i guess the tire/wheel ratio evens out compared to the sports 36 pound tire with 28 lb wheels
