So since day one with this truck, its always had this hop when you applied the brakes..

It feels like a warped brake drum on the rear, but its not always the same.. Sometimes it can be pretty unpleasant.. I've lived with it for 8000km, and today I had it in because its the only thing that bugs me about the truck..

The techs took it out.. Two of them.. They came back and I went out to talk to them. The one tech declared "its a defect"... And we have to get the parts to fix it.

Apparently, Toyota has revised rear leaf springs for my truck... He explained the issue has to do with pinion angle.. And this is Toyota's fix... Also, they are replacing the steering damper as well...

Not overly happy about them having to tear into my new truck... But they are addressing the issue..

I'll keep this updated as I go along..

I'll be having a bird if this doesn't fix it and it was a warped drum all along..

But they assessed it so quickly that they must have seen this before and know of the issue either through a TSB or through seeing the problem come to the dealer more than once...

pretty sure there's a tsb on this issue but it only applies to non off-road models...maybe they missed that caveat?

I would imagine they would have applied my VIN to wherever they get their information on TSB's...

Mind you my truck is de-badged... No TRD stickers or door Tacoma's and tailgate V6

    Don't make me paranoid

No vibes or other problems otherwise; just axle hop during deceleration?
I'd say that has more to do with pinon dive and/or shot suspension bushing(s).

She's smooth bud... Fast or slow.. Just when I hit the brakes sometimes it wants to do a lil dance..

The tech is telling me its the pinion angle.. And the new leafs correct it.. I don't see how.. But I'm going to go with it for now..

no problem with getting new leafs, free parts are always nice

just saying i'm pretty positive that because yours is a '17 and offroad it already has the new leafs that they're replacing

The new leafs will have a shim...
If your angles are good otherwise, shimming might induce vibrations at other times.
It's the weak ass springs loading and unloading constantly while decelerating...hop hop hop. Ideally, they would load then unload once while decelerating. Something is causing it do multiple times and why I mentioned bushings.
    Hope it works out.

    I'm not to sure.

I was looking up the issue typing different things into the search a few weeks ago and from what I gather from others experiences at the dealer they were told its something that it does..

Some people had suspicions of the drum being warped, and they were replaced... Only to have to replace the front rotors as they were the cause..

I will be asking them to verify that the new springs are indeed for my model before they go in...

    Thanks for the info sir.

There is no doubt in my mind that there will be effects of them having this apart and dickin' with it..

Hence why I drove it for the 8000km before saying anything about it really... I knew it was going to be a song and dance..

Totally missed your "rumble strip" description in your OP.
Did you ever get it resolved?
If you're game, try decelerating in S3 and see if it still does it. The "rumble strip" description is usually linked to the torque converter; more specifically the torque converter clutch. Basically, it's not slipping enough when half lock is engaged.

I always felt that "rumble strip" was a bit too harsh for describing the feeling. It was quite similar to the feel of warped rotors. The "fix" definitely made a difference but did not get rid of it 100%.

Finally got the truck in for the parts replacement and pinion angle correction..

Seems to have taken away about 95% of the problem, and the truck is overall smoother now

The TSB is listed as TCI-4520

I saw the multi page package the tech had.. It was extensive.

    Well...

Hanger bearing let go after Jackson Toyota was fuckin around with it... I was doing 80kph when it let go and the driveshaft beat off everything under there..

This is why I waited so long to have this job done... Because I knew they would fuck it up..

    And here we are.
