OME BP-51 Install Report and Height Adjustment

Any info on the rtt dealio? If private nbd. Just curious ive been eyeing an rtt for awhile now.

Do you mean what I bought or the fact I had to get the AALs?

I bought the Smittybilt Overlander XL tent. I just paid $879 on a 20%off, no tax and free shipping deal. The smaller one is also on sale too. I received tent by courier in a few days. My girl ordered the annex separately tonight and hoping to get that one soon too.

I might just set mine at 15mm with the slimline and try that out for a while. I’m sure I’ll have to have them adjusted once or twice but I do most all my own work as well, except this time I will most likely have a shop adjust them since I don’t have a spring compressor either.
I have a 3” revtek spacer lift right now and the stance is sick but the ride quality isn’t all that great lol. Kinda hits the bumps pretty hard, I’ve only had it on for about 3 months now but it’s gotta go haha. It would work good for someone who doesn’t off road all that often though.

 

@Volksparts i saw that sale for that smittybilt rtt. im super bummed i didn't take advantage. let me know how it works out. we have the same truck. what set up are you going to use for your rack?

 

I just saw 4 wheel parts is still running 20% off and free shipping. But the no tax deal is not an option any more. Still a good deal on my opinion. I just unfolded my tent today and it looks awesome. Also lifted my rear bajarack a small bit too. Hoping to mount the tent tomorrow and will post pics. And if I get more time hopefully get the AALs installed.

 

Anyone else have a little too much front rake after installing the kit? I didn’t adjust any preload. Just took it out of the box and put it on. I haven’t even installed my slimline bumper yet and it’s already sagging in the front. Any advice on how to level it out?

 

It shouldn't be sagging in the front. If you did dakars with no weight in the rear I can understand the rake. If that's the case your probably to high all around, and it rides horrible.

 

What did use for rear springs?

 

I have been reading your post over and over since yesterday trying to think if what you're saying is possible. Any chance the suspension hasn't settled after driving a little. Post some pictures up after driving it a little and measure out the heights in all four corners with the truck on level ground.

 

The Dakars that come with the kit

 

I’ll try to post some pictures today. I measured it yesterday and I think the rear was about a 1/2” higher. Maybe 3/4”. I want to say it was 24” in the front and 24 1/2 in the back.

 

Its not a kit, some suppliers sell them like that, not sure who you bought it through. Dakars in there stock form are intended for aprox 300# of weight added. With no weight up front your probably too high, and with no weight in the rear you are deffinitly way to high in the rear. I went 20mm in the front, stock dakars. Thats with 2 batteries, sso bumper winch, steel skids, sliders, steel rack, soft topper, and decked drawers. I am sitting pretty level, probably a c-hair high in the front. I suggest reading this whole thread, and adjust.

 

Do you know if they are the heavy version with the extra leaf in them? When I first installed my BP51's I had about 3-3/4" of lift I was level front to back. I have the old style dakars though. Get some measurements.

 

I’m not sure if they are the heavy version. I just got the kit on last week. The instructions said I could take the 3rd leaf out but I called ARB and they said they’d leave it in Incase I ever haul something so I did but that could be where the rake is coming from I guess. The back is already pretty soft though.

 

You can remove the long overload spring without losing any capacity. It's really just there for height. That is assuming yours have 2 overloads like mine.

 

You probably got the same set of leafs that I have. I can't have a comparative opinion because when I installed the kit I set my fronts at 10mm and the rear sat level even with my camper but once I put a load of stuff in the back, it sagged in rear. Just installed my

$81 D29xl Leaf Spring

D29xl add a leafs the other day and looks more level even with the added RTT. Is will try to take measurements later but I'm not currently on level ground. But yeah, again post pics on level ground. I'm assuming you've been driving it some for it to settle also.

Yes those are the same leafs that I have. I didn’t know that the kit was made for weight in the rear. I only read that it was rated for around 150# up front, I was thinking that the front would be high until I installed my sso bumper. It sat level for about a day then the front settled and the rear stayed the same lol.

Don't think it was necessarily made for weight in the rear but if you think about it even factory on most trucks have a front lower than rear so that when you put weight in the rear like most people do ( it's a commercial vehicle right), it won't be sagging. Just my thought. It's not a leveling kit. But like the other poster said, you can always remove a leaf, or maybe it's time for you to get that bumper you've been eyeballing. Hope this helps.

 

I finally had some free time to install my kit. Did SPC UCAs (that damn skewer bolt!!), and the ECGS front diff bushing.

I started on the rears today. Ran into an issue with the bolt on the new lower shock bracket. (Bolt with the collar crush sleeve). Instructions say 80ish lb-ft. Seemed like it was taking forever to reach torque. Then it got real easy. At first I was thinking I’m a 1/4 turn or two from snapping the head off. But now I’m recalling that the nut had a nylon like insert.

Anybody get those bolts up to torque?
Typo in instructions?
Wrong grade of bolt? (M12 8.8)
