    Hiya,

I searched for threads on bypassing the heater core, but all I found were threads by people who really don't like cold water showers ;)

My heater core is leaking into my passenger side footwell and fogging up the windshield. Since it never gets too cold in MD, I'm planning on just bypassing it and dealing with it sometime in the far and undefined future. Engine is the 3.4L 6 cyl 5VZ-FE on a '98 Pre-Runner. It looks like I have two options (pic below). I can either route the heater core outlet hose into the heater control valve (left/center of the photo) being careful not to kink it, or I can remove both inlet and outlet heater core hoses and put an elbow directly on the engine where they come from (bottom right of photo, but obscured by hoses). Any preferences one way or the other? Also, does anyone know the I/D of these hoses? Thanks!

Lets call the hoses 1 (left) 2 (Middle left of valve) 3 (Right of Valve)
Take off middle hose ( 2 ) where it meets valve
Take off Hose 1 and put where 2 was
Take 2 and put where 1 was. thus sealing off the heater core
    Done

Thanks! You're right, I was overthinking this. Kinks in this back-end would basically be the same as a closed heater control valve anyways, so easiest is best!

Don't suppose if you guys know what hose #1 is called (or part number). I'm trying to order a new one, but can't figure out which one I need; and Autozone/ O'reilly's were not much help... Thanks!

I'm looking for the hose that comes from the firewall to the engine (the one to the left in the pic above).... I believe it is the heater core return line.... The problem is, I don't know the specific name or part number of said hose, so it has become a crazy task to buy it... The hose is aprox 12 inch long, 3/4 inch diameter on one end, and slightly smaller on the other. It has 2 bends in it .... I have a 97 3.4L 4x4.... Thanks for the help!
