That's one way to do a cheap lift if you want to do one.

They fit just fine. Did that on my 08. Original suspension was worn out and had to go. Picked up a set for $100 on CL off a '16 Sport I believe. It isn't going to be as good as an aftermarket one but it is a solid option. Ride quality is just fine.

Thanks! Nice to see that they're working out good for you! Did the 2016's give you a 1" lift in the front as most people here are saying? If so, I wonder if it'll hold the weight of an ARB deluxe bumper and winch?

Honestly I don't know. Old suspension was SHOT and rode like crap when I bought it. I can tell you that the truck looks level and sits pretty nice now. Have had a few compliments on how it looks but it rides great. Don't expect the ride quality of a full aftermarket setup, but for the price you can get off a local selling a new, stock suspension? Hard to beat for a short term fix until you get a full kit or even just leave it on there if you don't need a full setup. I can get some pictures and measurements after work if you would like.

Ok here is the data dump my results.

    Vehicle:
    08 TRD SR5 4.0L 4X4

    Suspension:
Stock struts and coils off of a 2016 TRD Sport
    TSB replacement leaf pack

    Extras (weight):
Toolbox, behind second seat storage and other comforts and gear combined, I'd guess about 250-300 lbs total. 2 full tool sets, recovery gear, standard roadside tools, 3 jump start battery packs (yet to be delivered to family), and a basic set of survival supplies. Think impromptu camping/off roading weekend, not apocalypse level that some people do and other miscellaneous items.

    Measurements:
Front: 21 inches from center of the wheel to the fender, 35 inches from driveway to fender.

Rear: just a touch short of 22 inches from center of the wheel to the fender, 36 inches from driveway to fender.

Wheels and tires are stock with Cooper discovery at3 LT265/70/16.

    Hope that helps out.

Thanks @DerbyCityTaco! This will help tremendously! Really nice pics and nice looking truck!

I'll post up picks of my truck if I end up going this route.

Hmmm...if I get the leaf springs recall I hear that raises the back end up a bit; up to an inch apparently until it settles from what I hear. So the ARB deluxe bumper and winch will make the front end sag and the back will be raised! lol

Glad to help and thank you! It's nothing special but fits the bill for everything I need it to do. So far that setup has handled hauling, towing, moderate off road abuse, daily highway driving and never once gave me an issue or had the suspension bottom out.

Side note because there isnt much comparison in the pictures. I park next to a '15 or '16 Raptor 2 or 3 times a week at work and our mirrors sit at the same height.

Sounds like we use our trucks for almost the same applications although I was thinking about going a little heavier on the off-road use. We'll see what happens with that now though. haha

    Cheers

Can this also work the other way? Will the bilstein 5100s with my toytec coils from my 05 fit a 2016/2017?

They should but I'm not 100% certain. If I remember correctly, the 3rd gens are slightly different compression/length wise but not by much. Definitely within reasonable difference but not identical

They should no problems. The 5100's specific for the 3rd gen are valved differently and have different spring seat setting due to the different OEM spring of the 3rd gen (stiffer and longer to begin with)

Tires, soon to be shocks, bushings, and bull bar. No lift, not needed.
So I have some 2017 TRD offroad shocks and coils I'm about to purchase with 5k miles on them. I know it'd be a direct fit with some lift but I actually have some Iron man performance springs from a trade and was thinking of switching it out.

Would it be worth the effort to switch the coils or should I just wait until the coils start to sag? This will be part of replacing the lower control arms as well, just going with ACdelco for those.

    Bump for yours as well.

I'm not sure what's better, hijacking a thread, or starting yet another of the same (I searched....). Hijacking this thread seemed more productive this time.

Anyways, found a deal on a set of shocks from a '17 TRD Pro, basically removed at purchase of truck. Are those any different than the regular TRD shocks? Still a fit for my stock '09 TRD Sport?

I just so happened to be on here and saw your comment. Yup, they'll fit. You'll get about an inch of lift like me (I went without switching to the iron man springs, too much trouble). I believe the Pro will be more cushiony but either way, they'll feel better cause they're new shocks. My truck rides like a dream now!

Awesome, thanks! Dealer said mine were starting to seep, these are definitely an economical way to go.
