    Ya thats what I used.

Since it sits on the outside of the bushing you have less leverage to hammer it in, but it will work. I think I hammered directly onto the disc without the handle.

could also try freezing the bushing prior to install, may help.

Man, having a hard time getting that CV axle out. Any other good tips besides more curse words?

A large flathead that can sit in the notch on flange of the CV Axle, and a good 2lb. sledge. Give it a few good hits, rotate and hit it a few more times, and you should be good.

Well, thank you that worked on about the 3rd swing!

Next problem, can't seem to get the tool in between the bushing and the axle splines?? I know it's a super tight fight but damn I can't even get it close. Not sure if there is a trick to that.

I did try drilling a hole in the tool and putting a wire on it like another member did. Still can't seem to get it in there.

Use a plastic bag you have around as wading, in shove it in the diff carrier to block any diff fluid from coming out if you didn’t drain the diff also to prevent the tool from dropping in there, put it back far enough that you can retrieve it later with some needle nose pliers. Put the tool in there and, and tap it in using a punch. Once you get it to seat you can thread the tool.

I am doing all of that, but it seems like the bushing is almost too far into the housing. I can't get the tool to get to a good enough angle that I can just tap it in I'll try to snap a picture but the bushing isn't flush with the housing, so I'm thinking it somehow moved inside a little, making it hard for me to get the tool in there.

    Taking pic now

First pic, can see the bushing is not even with the housing.

Second you can see I still have about 30% of the bushing to clear before it falls into place. Now sure how to get the needle bearing out if it slide in somehow.

I see what you are talking about, you can try pushing your wading back into the carrier a bit more. I’d try to get the tool in ther at an angle standing up, then try tapping the tool in a bit.

Tried that already. Going to give it a go now but I'm not sure what to do from here. Could be done in 30 min if I could just get the damn tool in there..

So the tool piece is square.

People have been grinding down the outside edge of the short side to make it a bit thinner.

    Look at post #17

Super late response but hope it helps or helps others.

I got it done last night, a few minutes after I posted here I got the tool in.

It is funny you sent that though, because that is exactly what I did. I didn't grind it down that much though, only a very little bit. I just decided to wack it with the punch and hammer even though it looked like it wouldn't fit and boom, it slide right in.

    Thank you though!

Wanted to share my thoughts with this install. I completed it yesterday.

I worked in a shop for 4 years and was mostly an alignment specialist but did other small jobs. I have never done anything with an axle or differential other than drain and fills. So this was a little scary of a job for me but after over a month of research, it seemed fairly easy.

Taking the front end apart is very easy to me since I used to do that all the time. Took me less than 10 minutes to get to the axle. Taking the axle was a little tricky. I tried a few methods but the one that worked was using a long flat head screwdriver, laying underneath and hitting one of the notches on the axle from the bottom. Literally the 3rd hit it popped out. I marked it with a crayon so I knew where to line it up when assembling.

Getting the tool inside the differential really was the toughest part for me. First, I was a little scared putting the tool in there with fear of it falling into the diff. I did put a wading inside but I also drilled a hole in the tool with a wire like another TW member suggested. I struggled with that for over a half hour. It seemed like my needle bearing slid back a tiny bit making it a little difficult to get the tool to fit in between the spider gears and the bearing. (Check posts #611 and #612 for photos) I decided to take the wire off and also ground a small bit off the edge of the tool. After a few new curse words, I used a punch, gave it one good wack with the hammer and it went into place. The tool didn't line up properly the first time or so but after a couple realignments it came out easy. Please make sure you use a magnet to get the parts of the bearing that break off inside. The instructions really should mention that because it can easily be missed if you aren't paying attention.

Rented the install tool at Auto Zone, worked flawlessly. Just took my time and made sure it aligned perfectly with the housing journal.

Axle was easy to install. Just aligned up, used the same screw driver and hammer to hit it in and put the rest back together.

All in all it really isn't hard. It is time consuming and scary putting the tool in there but if I did it again it would go a lot quicker. It took me 4 hours including lunch break and other interruptions. I honestly wish I did this when I installed the lift but never had a problem with my 2006 so I decided to gamble.

I do have the tool for sale. Inbox me! I am driving to Cincinnati this weekend so I could even meet if you are out that way.
