It's probably OK, people have been putting relays in for forever. The diode is just an extra layer of protection. I had the relay in my truck for 2 1/2 years without any discernible problem, but that said I've put the diode in.

Can anyone tell me if this Radio Shack relay part number will work for this mod 275-217? I happen to have one. I believe the original mod used this relay but I can not find the wiring chart. Would this chart still be correct for this relay?

That relay won't work because it is the 120 volt version.

I just placed an order from the supplier, as soon as they get here they will be back up on etsy.

Close but no cigar, mine was the 275-0218. The one you have is off by one number 275-217 :( They look virtually identical from the outside, but the activating coil is different.

I found one of the places where I read that relay was used. Well looks like I will wait for your relay. Don't why I had this one laying around.

Is this intended for slow speeds only? Or can I lock the rear when I'm out in the desert trying to drift? Asking for a friend ;)

I wouldn't lock it while the wheels were spinning, but I know somebody :anonymous: that's locked it up and done some impressive doughnuts in a snowy parking lot. I can't say it's a good idea, but what you going to do about those friends that get a little crazy now and then?

Well, I read through some post in the thread. Seems to not hurt the rear diff at any given speed as long as you engage it when fully stopped.

    ^this^

I had an auto locker in a jeep that basically kept the rear end locked anytime you were applying the gas. I got funny looks in the grocery store parking lots all the time. The tires would squeal and chirp as I turned into parking stalls. Occasionally it would start handling funny on the pavement as the "bind" would build up, but it was never an issue off-road. The tire wear was high, but it was cheap to install so it balanced out.

I don't think your friend will have any problems, but who am I, just some guy on the internet.

I would not try to lock the locker while in motion you could explode the pumpkin.
Unlocking the locker in motion is okay.

I have also read in posts in this thread that people have accidentally hit the button with their knee and the locker did not lock while they were moving above 5 miles an hour.

The slow boat from China finally arrived and by happy accident they sent the wrong relay. The new ones include an LED so you can see when they are activated, bonus!
