I believe that spring rate (590 lbs is the OME 883, 884, 885, 887 and 888) means that it takes 590 lbs of force to compress the spring 1".

I should. But my TCs don’t cause my OME setup to over extend. But they do clunk after full droop is achieved.

So all those OME have the same spring rate? Why the different variations? Would spring rate be affected by heavier weight on the truck, ie bumper winch?

Or is it that they are the same spring weight when the added weight is there on the heavier duty coils?

When I see 620lb springs and 700lb springs and 500lb springs (or whatever OEM is) what does that mean?

Have some faith in 5100s and a bumper/winch... upgrade to the eibach coil and itll be fine.

The OME coils are either longer or a heavier spring rate going up from lowest to highest. It should be listed on ARBs website

Ohhh look you are both quoted in the same post ;)

So @Subway4X4 I spotted an OME CO setup for sale on craigslist. Nitro 90000 shocks and 886 springs for $500 brand new. Recommended?

@The Hunter the Eibach springs will work with the 5100s?

The variations in OME coils is the overall length, which is why different coils are recommended for different can variations.

For argument sake, let's say the front of the Tacoma weighs 1000 lbs, and comes oem with a 500 lb coil. This rate of cool pairs nicely with the 1000 lb, and can handle that weight. Once you add skids, bumper and winch you bump that bumper up to 1,300 lbs. With a 500 lb coil, it'll be a lot easier to compress now, so you need to increase the spring rate to compensate for the added weight.

In laymans terms, if you add more weight up front, you need to get a higher rate coil, and a shock to go with it.

    Everything TW members recommend
OEM - Original Equipment Manufacturer AKA factory Coils.

Here are the spring rates of coils that will FIT* your 5100's:

Eibach 112-620 coils 620lb spring rate 381mm in length
Eibach 52-1600 lift coils 610 lbs spring rate 391 mm in length
OME 883 coils 590 lbs spring rate 375 mm in length
OME 884 coils 590 lbs spring rate 390 mm in length
OME 885 Coils 590 lbs spring rate 395 mm in length
OME 886 coils 660 lb spring rate 402 mm in length
OME 887 coils 590 spring rate 400 mm in length

    * Note that all theses coils will physically FIT the 5100's. The 5100's may not be valved properly for the heavier 660 lb 886's

I think your dilemma is: Should I get the heavier 886 OME Coils to work with my 5100's, winch and bumper? This is where you need to start looking at all the input you are getting now from everyone and make the decision.

If you do decide to go this route, know that if you go towards the larger body B6112's in the future, then you still need to get a different set of heaver coils for that shock.

From a convo that I had with Marie at Headstrong long ago: Now on a stock double cab 4x4 the OME 884X coils will provide approx. 2" of lift but since you are running the additional weight up front this can bring the lift down some. How much is hard to say. You could go with the OME 885X coils which provide approx. 2.5" of lift on a stock double cab 4x4 and see if the extra up front weight brings the coil down toward the 2" mark.

I was recommended 5100's and OME 885's for my attempt at a 2.5" lift. Is this no bueno?
