4.0l Serpentine Belt

That doesn't look too bad. On my '96 Bonneville the serpentine belt actually runs through an engine mount. You have to jack up the engine a little and take the mount apart to get the belt through it. To do that you have to remove a tire & part of the inner fender & sit under the wheel well. The Taco looks pretty simple by comparison.

Yeah, maybe I missed it but I couldn't find a diagram under the hood or in the manual so I printed out a big copy, laminated it and placed it in my manual.

 

Yeah, pretty much all of the late 90s GM cars with the 3800 engine had that problem. And even after customers knew what needed to be done, they still complained about the labor charges to replace the belt for them. So many time you just want to walk up and slap the piss out of a customer. lmao.

Does anyone know if just the pulley on the tensioner can be changed or am I forced into buying the whole tensioner assembly? Replacing the whole tensioner just seems like an unneccessarily difficult process that I'd like to avoid if possible.

 

Typically they come as an assembly. You will get the bolt flange to mount it and the spring loaded pulley

Great idea with the lamination Maxamillion. I folded my copy in half and trimmed it before laminating, now it fits very nicely in the manual. Great reference, thanks for the posts and links.

I understand it is very hard to tell with the newer belts if they need replacement they don't necessarily have to show cracks to be wearing, and they appear to be good visually. But at around 80,000 I will probably change mine.
