Hello, this is my first post so please be kind. I’m going to be purchasing my first Tacoma after already purchasing a 2017 Toyota 4Runner Off-Road Premium, which my wife claimed for herself. I was told last night at the dealership that if I purchase a 2018 model Tacoma and put a lift kit on it, that the Toyota Sense would no longer work because it can’t be recalibrated. Now I don’t know if this was a way to pressure me into a 2017 model or not, so I ask you Tacoma Gurus. Can the Toyota Sense be recalibrated to a 3-4 in lift? Thank you

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere it can manually be shut off by the Driver....

Yeah I heard that too, but can it be recalibrated to work with the lift kit? Otherwise why buy the 2018 when I can get a decked out 2017?

You answered your own question..............why do you need the 18? Grab a 17 and no worries.

If you lift the '18 the TSS will work still work. You might want to recalibrate by that's something only the dealer can do. If you don't recaibrate it will still work but won't be as accurte.

Get a pro grill and move the sensor down two inches by modifying a bracket or something. Where there is a will, there is a way.

on my 18 tundra, you can adjust the sensitivity of the TSS. Just turn the sensitivity all the way down and you will be fine

So what happens when you load it down and the grille is pointed up? Does it stop working then? Sounds like BS to me.

Also the Radar cruise control can be overridden by holding the button to enter normal cruise control

Do you do serious off road stuff? Why the lift?? If it's purely for "Cool-Factor" maybe reconsider.

    Just asking.

I'd say go for the 17 and deck it out, unless you're really wanting the Safety Sense of the 18's.

Is your tundra lifted? And do you have any trouble with TSS so far ?

I actually took the kids off roading with our 4Runner at Hiiden Falls Adventure Park in Texas and they loved it, so I really want the lift on the truck since that will by my vehicle as my wife feel in love with the 4Runner and proceeded to forget about me, lol. I have the option of getting a 2017 Tacoma OffRoad with everything except factory leather. But the dealer will have a shop install the 3-4in lift, new BFG KOA2 or Nitto Grappler tires, new wheels and a 100,000 mile warrenty for 45,225 OTD price. I’d still want to get a skid plate, TRD Pro grill, LED lights, and blacked out badges. Is this worth it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

45.2 K feels high to me. Seems you could get a 2018 PRO for that and just leave it. Ready to go.

ever think that maybe the pro is already calibrated to account for it being 2 inches lower?

or... get a pro grill and let it go 2 inches lower and follow it up with a 2" lift.

If the only difference between the 2 is TSS, why not just avoid the year with TSS altogether?
