It's the 5.3 but I haven't drove it yet. I will be tonight I think. It's switchable between 4 and 8 cyls, so maybe the mapping is strange?

Im just mulling over what I want to do down the road. I'll prob buy a used reg cab HD down the road when I get a house. Something that can tow, haul, and plow. I'd like a dedicated trail rig someday, but we will see what happens.

Could be. I noticed it the most accelerating from the mid-40mph range. You'd push the pedal and the engine would make slightly more noise but nothing would happen until you got to about the 1/4 pedal mark. And then it'd downshift and pull well. Pulling away from a stoplight wasn't bad, but you definitely noticed it while you were cruising. Was almost like the gas throttle had a dead spot. So if that was where it made the switch from 4 cylinders to 8 that'd make sense.

I know a lot of the older 5.3's had problems with the oil consumption after a little while. Might want to check into that

Same here. I've only ever plowed with a reg cab truck, and don't think I would want it any longer.

Hey I know some of you guys work at a machine shop. Do you happen to quote making 1 off parts? My boss already placed an order but he had difficulty finding a place. If you have any information please send it for future reference. Thanks!

Plowed with a Jeep CJ for a while, it was our farm truck when I was a kid. Was super handy for those tight driveways, but with big storms it took forever because it was so light you couldn't push very much snow at a time.

Not a pain - a challenge, a FUN challenge. and you don't take that rig to the mall or grocery store, but if you do you park further away & proudly take 4 spots to park. Really the only limitation is where you can pop-in to if you want a quick coffee.

Or where you park when you have a meeting in Boston. Real PITA.

Pulling into my grandparent's driveway with one of those would require a 16 point turn, which doesn't seem like it'd be that enjoyable while you were trying to plow.

Oh - you don't need to leave the door open... we can take care of that too. Besides, you're supposed to change the locks when you buy a house - who knows who has keys in the neighborhood. (BUT, if you bring the lock bodies to the lock smith, they can rekey for you very cheaply & make them all match or not as you wish.)

Yeah, I have had issues getting it into / out of my driveway when the neighbors have a party & park up the street. But I enjoy the challenge.
Truck ballet as it were, maneuvering something big like it were something small.

Not fun when you’re getting paid to plow the best plow trucks are reg cabs or access cabs with short beds.. we had a old ford that we bobed the bed/rear frame for city plowing it was sick until the salt got to it
I dissagree I have driven/worked in many gmc dump drucks and can not stand when some asshole parks is stupid “heavy duty crew cab” in multiple spots infact when the park like that I’ll gladly huck a lugi on their hood/windshield. Theres no excuse to park like a dick at grocery stores/malls even hardware stores if you can’t park it properly you shouldn’t drive it there period. Only boys do stupid shit like that. Any functional super duty can be driven/parked respectfully

    +1.
I've got no problem with them taking up two spaces in parallel (because of the length of the truck) but there's no reason to overlap into the adjacent spots.

This one I disagree with. For a lot of these guys it's their only vehicle, which means that it IS their grocery getter, family car, etc in addition to their work rig. Which is probably why it's a crew cab in the first place.

Yeah and for those people they usually find a way to be respectful withtheir parking situation because they understand they are out of place. If you take a forward and back space because of length fine... or park at the edge and have the back of your bed hang over I do it all the time. My first work truck was gmc 3500 with 10foot dump body. But if you take 4 spots and i can tell it’s purposeful i hope you have windshield wiper fluid.
