YOU could have the best taco on the road but if your frame is rusted to hell and back how long is it REALLY going to last?????

If the frame isn't terrible go for it! I'm not 100% on it but I think the frame is still covered by Toyota? double check on that then you have no worries if the frame gets bad you maybe still eligible for a new frame.

I believe the evidence is that electronic rust prevention is largely useless on vehicles. Cathodic protection using a sacrificial anode does work on pipelines, ships and oil rigs, though. But it's because they are immersed in the electrolyte continuously. What the OEMs are probably doing is just galvanizing, which is fine and does work well. The electrochemical principle is the same, the zinc being technically sacrificial. But just bolting a box with an anode on your truck isn't going to work beyond the few inches immediately around the anode.
It's all about eyes on the actual truck. Even buying an TX or AZ truck isn't risk-free, perhaps it was submerged in a flash flood or hurricane, which would be just as bad to long term ownership as road salt on the frame.

I believe if they think the frame is bad enough on the newer ones they will just spray it instead of frame replacement. It was listed as one of the recalls at least on the 09.

Also, these are photos of my current truck that I have now had for 10 full days and hate it. I should have known that I would never be content with a chevy.

I get my trucks oil sprayed at rust check every year it keeps them looking like new. It keeps them in great shape compared to anything else. I used to just wash down my frames / paint them but rust would always re appear. the oil stops it from even happening. Fluid film is good if you don't have an oil spraying place near you.

And once a year is enough to get you through the whole winter of salted roads?

Yessir. This is the stuff i use http://www.rustcheck.com/

Even if you cant see it, it weeps into all cracks and crevices. They have two applications, thin and thick. Thin basically disappears but is still there (but drips on your driveway the first few days). the thick one you can see and it has holding power and does not drip. Fluid film is more like their thin application.

Yes yes and yes yes...it's EVERYWHERE. Westboro toyota. Basically now any time that you are under the truck for the foreseeable future you will get covered in black goop. They said it stays tacky for a long time. It's like tar. I'm sure it's a technical improvement over nothing and they did scale the rust off with air blasting. I accept it and hope it works. I have to do my brakes (more rusted hardware I'm sure) so I wonder if it's all going to come off on the jack and jack stands.

    3. As mentioned by BigBiscuit, a lot depends on previous maintenance and a vehicle from salt-using areas need not necessary be disqualified.

Every time I see that thread “let’s see those rusted frames” or whatever title is, I think to myself we should make a thread “Let’s see those pristine frames” and I’d bet there are just as many people posting pics all the way back to 05 models.

Of course it does Tacoma owners no good to try and tell it like it is because then Toyota has no obligation for frame replacements. In a way it’s good to have the rust complaints so we have the option down the road. As opposed to other vehicle manufacturers.

I looked at a Grand Cherokee recently that had really low miles and was a one owner trade in. I pulled the carfax and saw that it was originally from Ohio, but I went and looked at it anyways. When I looked under it, it was covered in thick rust . That dealer was asking $9k for it and I told them they're crazy, might as well put that thing on a truck and ship it back to where it came from.

You guys saying "mind over matter" and "why do people care so much" clearly do not live somewhere where trucks LITERALLY break in half from rust.
