@Pigpen.....need a hookup. Sharpish (#2 kit for V6) guy got his tonight and is saying his pump is still running....and ALWAYS runs on cold starts regardless of temp outside.
Can you confirm for me that your pump is not running on a cold start? I dont want to get orders in for the V6 and there be some issue....Check pump on cold start(over on pass side....black plastic pump about size of grapefruit).....touch it and see if you can feel it running(or possibly hear it and also hear it wind down after 20-30 secs or so). Im not going to ship any more until we figure this out.

I have always heard my pump on cold starts. I have not heard it since installing the pump. I'm wondering if he spliced the wrong wire, like I almost did - by misinterpreting the diagram.

Edit: shit. I just went out. Truck is cold. I lifted the hood and started the truck. I ran over to the pump... Aaaannnd, it's running. Fahk. I swear I haven't heard it before. It is def running though.

Last year I pulled the stock foam and put on the uni filter. That helps protect you from pump failure ($400). Once we get this kit working flawlessly on the V6 (already does on the I4), that's when we can feel safe from the valves sticking shut ($2000+).

I guess I haven't heard it because the weather has cooled off. I start the truck and go back in the house. Hearing the pump shut off is when you notice that it's been running. I don't have a lot of time for working on the truck these days, but I'm confident we will resolve this.

Just curious as to what triggers the pump to start. Engine coolant temp? Intake air temp? I can start truck on a cool morning, let it run a few minutes, turn off, start engine again and it goes through the pump cycle again. Once it warms up good it stops the pump cycle.
I keep a scan guage on my truck at all times. Is there anything I can help monitor? @slyfox75

The Original AIP problem originated in 2005 when the updated V8s with VVTI were introduced. Before that, the AIP as we know it didn't exist. Those vehicles(Tundra, 4Runner, Seq, GX, Landcruiser) the ECU was looking for conditions to be met(or not) to determine AIP system On...Or not.
Those Conditions: If Less than 41F Ambient air temp outside.....Pump DOES NOT come on. If Water Temp greater than 104F, Pump DOES NOT come on.
Evidently something has changed in the V6 Tacos from those previous systems. This is where the hangup is. Im going to reach out to a Toyota Tech on my 4Runner forum and see if he can point me to "where" I can find those conditions for the Tacos. Does anyone on here have a PDF Service Manual?? Im guessing it is in the Emissions section but not 100%. He might know and be able to tell me or point to where it should be located. Then I just need access to a manual:/
After Pigpens report that kit I sent worked, I was confident it would roll out just like all the other platforms. Looks like that is not the case though.

If you have a 2010, as it says in your profile, you don’t have the air injection bs and don’t need to worry about it.

I do have a 2010 2.7L. It certainly does have an air pump. Was there a model split in 2010?

2.7s always had it. A 2010 4.0 wouldn't have it. 2012 was the first year.

Riiiight. I was assuming V6. They didn’t have it until 2012.

I had this issue last month with secondary air pump. I had also installed the unit filter last year. It was covered under my extended warranty with $100 deductible, but they said if I replaced the unit filter it would void the warranty for that repair.

slyfox75, I can confirm my 2012 v6 does not run at temps lower then 41. Today at 34 I had the hood up when I started and my hand on the pump feeling for movement, which there was none and no whoosh like above your listed 41 degrees. I hope this helps.

slyfox75, Today at 9am 34 degrees. First time truck was started in 9 days. Like I said earlier I popped the hood, then started, listened for the swoosh after 10 -20 seconds and there was none. I read somewhere a while ago that the pump does not run below 40 and on the last couple times it been that temp I would listen. My trucks pump has not run below 40 degrees.

Yeesh. I hope you guys get it figured out. It was easy for the '05 Tundra and '07, '08 4Runner 4.7's. Connect the slyfox kit, 'whoosh' is gone never to be heard again.

I know this post was months ago.. but you think a few reports....out of hundreds of thousands of 2013 models sold, is an issue?

And can you link to the FEW you have seen. Bet you can't find more then two members who own a 2013 that have had the issue.

I'm not going to get into a pissing contest with you. There have been a few reported failures. If you're that interested in stirring the pot then go look yourself.

Check engine light (CEL) came on recently. Truck makes a louder, air intake like sound at startup. A check shows Code P0418 is showing on my 07 Taco, 2.7L. It appears this is the air pump. I checked the fuses associated with the system as well as the elec. connections. All good. I read in this thread that a member used a Dorman replacement pump body for his 2.7 instead of a 450 dollar toyota OEM. Has anyone else gone this route? Thanks for any advice. Tim
