Well in 225k miles the only maintenance the transmission has gotten is 1 clutch maybe 4 fluid changes. I doubt that the auto from the same generation would have been as trouble free and have as many miles to go still...

Idk I've got just over 200k and I've only changed the fluid twice, no issues on my auto.

240k miles on mine. I drain and refill every 30k, original owner did too. 3rd gens are pretty solid.

No haha. I have replaced everything on my 4Runner except the fuel pump and alternator. I don’t care because I trust all of it and it’s all new. My truck drives better than every truck in this thread because of those upper arms.

I’m just saying a bunch of replies saying “my truck lasted blah blah before blah” is a dick measuring contest and lame as fuck. This thread and this group of people is better than that.

.. but you literally said dick measuring contests are lame as fuck and then prefaced it with “my truck drives better than every truck in this thread.”

I still need to change oil, rotate tires, reboot my spare CV, change coolant if I have time, and swap control arms and ball joints hopefully as well before I leave. Probably shouldn't have procrastinated all the maintenance until the weekend before.

I think I'm gonna do alstrom point, valley of the gods, and Zion national park on my way to Vegas to pick her up at the airport though. A plan is slowly taking shape.

I honestly hadn't started making a plan for DV yet. I figured out my days before she gets there, and I think we'll either go to Sublime Point or Toroweap at the Grand Canyon on the way back since she's never seen the Grand Canyon, and the last time I saw it I was maybe 10 years old. This info certainly helps make a plan though! That first route from Beatty to Panamint sounds pretty sweet and hits a lot of what I wanted to see. I think we might go north before going to Panamint to go to Saline Valley. Is snow a problem from what you've seen on the passes like Lipincott or Mengel?

Also where is the homestead campground? I didn't see anything on it on google.

I'll have to do a little reading on lippincott in December. I'm thinking it probably comes down to the weather conditions at that particular time.

That looks like an awesome campsite! I assume it's doable to get to that campsite from Beatty in one day?

Also google has gotten pretty good at their 3D mapping stuff. Looks like there might be a nice site or two a little higher up along the road that runs past the concrete slab.

I'll keep my eye out, gotta remember to pick up a teakettle and bring it out there all the way from Alabama to mark our place.

Noted. I'll try and keep it reasonable haha. I apologized for driving slow on our last trip because it was a really dark windy dirt road in a Florida State Forest. She replied with "I thought you were driving kinda fast". The next morning I went "kinda fast", made it out of the park in maybe half the time haha

@Unner nothing I have encountered in death valley is difficult just watch out for random rocks and you will be fine. My wife's favorite spot in death valley is saline springs, its deff a different kinda place but its well worth soaking in the natural springs and watching the sunrise over the mountains.

idk what kind of maps you use but I have had great luck with Galileo pro and I use california trail maps gpx files layered and it has every trail marked out. you don't get cell service in death valley but the maps will still track your location via sat and give you where you are on the maps. They also have all the trails from mexico to northern cali and some of the surrounds states now, they keep growing and I have found them to be very accurate.

I'll have to check out that map package. The Galileo pro looks pretty simple to use also. I used Back Country Navigator in Colorado and it was kinda difficult/cumbersome to use. Debating if it's worth the extra $10 for the lifetime for myself or not. I don't live anywhere near, but if I go back once it would pay for itself.

Anyone here ever done Mojave road?

yes I did it from Laughlin to Barstow. its deff worth it, we took 4 days to do it and took our time. the only thing to worry about is afton canyon and the water crossing as well as the salt flats where travelers rock is. If it has rained recently then that turns into real nasty mud. deff want to have extra gas with you, I used all of my 10 gallons. if you are going to do the trail bring a rock for travelers rock and make sure to climb up it and read the plaque.

Yeah it looks like a pretty tame trail, kinda like white rim trail in Moab. Just long, beautiful, and remote. I just looked up precipitation maps and it looks like it hasn't rained I'm death valley or Mojave in the last 30 days so that's good, lots of rain up in the Sierra's though. I always carry extra gas with me, but only about 4 gallons. It looks like worst case you can detour to Baker and get gas. Unfortunately we won't have 4 days. We'd probably be looking to do it in 2-2.5 or so. I'm debating cutting prismo out. I'd like to go, I've never seen the Pacific, but it's kinda out of the way.

So I need to bring a teakettle and a rock. Got it.

Good to hear that the water crossing wasn't too bad. I was looking for some recent trip reports. If that works that would be sweet! Thanks!

Alright 4Runner folks, we are looking for someone to let us borrow their 3rd gen and 4th gen 4Runners for approximately 24-48 hours!

As some of you may know, M-Racks is now a part of KC HiLiTES. We are really looking to expand the product offerings right away and Toyotas are one of the top priorities. In order to create roof racks that fit uniquely for the 3rd and 4th gens and are blueprinted for precision fit and finish, we need to get the vehicles scanned by SEMA Garage which is located in the LA area (Diamond Bar) and would take 24-48 hours. You would be an integral part in us producing a new roof rack for this model 4Runner and would be contributing to the ever-expanding aftermarket world!

We will of course make this worth your time, so send me an email (tayloru@kchilites.io) or PM me for details if you're interested! This is going to be on a first come, first serve basis but I will create a short list in case someone flakes out. We need someone's vehicle who's roof is in good shape (not all dented up), is basically stock, and doesn't have any extra holes in it from previously installed racks etc.

Here are some photos of what the M-Rack looks like for the Tacomas and is similar in aesthetics to what the 4Runner racks will look like:
