Welllll, my normal 4 days off will be 7/8-11. so not with out some finagling. Problem is I am already taking most all my annual leave in mid june for a wedding in the Gunnison/ CB valley. And my chica was talking to HER friend about some shit in Oregon in july.... sO .... Fuck me i am gonna have to call in with wheeling-itis, to one or the other or somethin....
Oh, BTW, I know I'd have to take a spot in line, But I would love some 'BirdTRDy' sliders.... they would go SO well with front and rear CBI bumpers.... ... and then I woke up....
Sooo, long story short... dont know yet. that would be SO frickin cool tho. I rode Silverton and Telluride last winter. the mountains up there are the real deal... EPIC Frickin terrain. Winter and summer.!! all day long!

Can't you guys trade shifts? It looks like you only need a day, maybe two extra. Girlfriend's plans don't sound like they're nailed down yet, you got dibs.
Nice pics. That Red Mountain Pass is a crazy road. One of the prettiest ever though. Yes, the mountains up here are the real deal. You're so true that it is summer and winter everyday. The weather does everything at that elevation. In July, the attendees need to pack everything from shorts and t-shirts to jackets, hats, and gloves. Even if there is no rain in the forecast, you need rain jackets too.

I had a few awesome ski trips up there this year too. I did a sweet snow cat trip I'll have to tell you about. I also got in a nice Wolf Creek trip immediately following big storms. Cutting first tracks in waist deep powder, he he he he.

 

Yeah, I am going to have to put in some work for this plan! BTW someone screwed up our trade policy a couple years back, by not repaying trades, so now they only allow one 24 hr trade per month. pretty lame. If I could get 48 hours off that = 10 days total. which is great.... if you can do it.

 

Yeah, it's always one asshole that ruins it for everybody. Unfortunately, a typical story.

So where would we meet up for this thing? and how much is spending plannin on running? All campin out and stuff right?

 

We would meet Saturday morning in Farmington at the entrance to Chokecherry Canyon and wheel until early-mid afternoon. I would suggest you then head about an hour north to the base of the mountains and set up camp in time for dinner and beers before dark. I can help you find the good camping spots. The next two-ish days would be the trips through the mountains.

Obviously, being in and around tourist towns you could spend as much as you want. However, if you're on a tight budget and camping, potentially the trip would cost you no more than gas, and food. Some of the more established camp sites (port-a-potties, picnic tables, and fire pits) want something around $10 a night but you could camp in the forest for free if you wish.

All of the wheeling takes place on public lands and is free.

but i have been savin my cash money for a new to me yota so maybe by the time the trip rolls around ill have soemthin to wheel in!!

but put me down as a maybe for the daytrip or the daytrip/camping trip.

 

Well for that kinda cash I could be definitely down! If it is just gas i can handle the woods and all that stuff. Just shower in a river somewhere. All public lands? what kinda wheeling are we gonna do? is it just like driving on dirt roads or legit rocks an stuff?

Big Bend is a wonderful place but I'd argue that when speaking of beauty and wheeling opportunities, we're in a whole other league.

Oh crap, I just bad mouthed Texas in front of Texans. Please don't kill me when you get here.

 

The truth of the matter is that there is WAY more public land to wheel on in states who's names don't start with "TEX"

 

Yes, I understand Texas has virtually no public land. Conversely, we are virtually all public land around here.
