This may have been covered in here before, but, is there a good way to mount a trasharoo on a tailgate, I don't have a rear mounted spare, without scratching up the tailgate?

I just used the given bucked and made sure the plastic clips were on the inside. Didn’t notice any scratches

Cool thanks I got it as a secret santa gift. I'd been wanting one but without the rear mounted spare I never had gotten one. I can't put one of those bumpers on the truck pulling the mini camper or utillity trailer the spare would hit. I guess I could also mount on the back of the camper when we take it down trails also.

That's a good idea. I don't plan on riding around with it on all the time but when I take the truck out with out the camper it'll be nice. I may figure out a way to mount it on the camper as well.

I did this before I had a swing out. BTW was there multiple trasharoo sizes in the past or are they just bigger now? I just replaced mine and there is a noticeable size difference(that's what she said).

Can’t say as the one I currently have is my first one. Was the only size I was offered when I ordered it.

I ordered the BAMF rack this time. Ive had the BAMF low profile RTT rack with my other tent, but the current tent is 7” longer than the long bed, so i needed a taller rack. The cap and rack was too tall for me. I want the top of the tent and the top of the Prinsu to be the same height.

    BAMF rack specs:
    Short bed
    17” above the bed sides

I wanted short bed because i need room on the front (next to cab) to take clips off of the tent cover. Its not like the RTTs that you see with zippers on the cover. There is a latch/clip that comes undone with a web belt. I think 12 total. So i need room to access those. I also needed the 17” because for my swingout spare, it’s interfering with that 7” overhang. Ive actually remedied that yesterday. I ordered a replacement part from Billy at Bruteforcefab to make an adjustable height spare. So i can lower it down if it hits the tent now. And its tilted, so that helps with clearance too. Very clever!

No pics of the rack, it’s still in production. Hopefully 4-5 more weeks

Like others, I just mount mine when I'm going camping. I like to wax the hell out of my tailgate before I mount it to protect the paint as much as possible.

Wax will help but if it gets dusty under there and you are bouncing down the trail, your gonna scratch it up.

How about washing real good, and then applying some clear vinyl wrap where the Roo will sit? The wrap can be replaced as needed, and the paint will be protected.

    Plasti-dip the tailgate 4-5 coats.

I have dipped the sides of my truck a couple of times when I had high fence welding jobs to do in cedar brush country here in Texas. If it will keep cedar limbs from scratching the paint it will stop the trasharoo from doing it.

Overlanding is totally different than dragging my welding trailer up and down a dozer cut fence rows welding brace posts up. Lol

I will be transversing the badlands known as the I-95 to DC on or about January 3rd and heading back the 8th.
