New LED headlights 2012 Taco

Just installed my new LED H4 replacements. They are awesome. They are 4000 lumens, with the braided heat sinks, required because of the limited clearance and the waterproof boot.
I bought ODX 4000lumens, great quality, incredible results in terms of lighting.
Went for a late night winter drive, passed about 100 vehicles, never got flashed.
I highly recommend. $190/pair, 30,000hrs, 12 yr warranty.

We have seen these same claims numerous times, unfortunately they pretty much never hold true. Show us some wall shots, park 20-25ft from the wall and take a picture of your beam pattern to share. Not getting flashed is not a good unit of measurement for beam control.

With LEDs the lumens are almost never accurate. All you have to do is look up 'lifetime LEDs' to see how good a warranty is from an LED company that closes its doors to avoid the warranty claims after they have already made the money.

 

crashnburn80 can you do a review of some good alternative 168 or 194 bulbs incandesant or LED for the high mount brake light on the back of the cab, and which ones would be the best to use for brightness, safety, longetivity.i was was looking into some LEDs but there are many pros and cons in the reviews ive investigated.

 

@mesojdm made a pretty sweet LED 3rd brake light replacement assembly for the 2nd gen which included bed lights. I tried out the prototype but unfortunately there were figment issues with the housing that was used. I’m not sure if mesojdm has tried a different supplier for the housing.

I’ll take a look at the bulbs in question.

 

thanx, I think it would compliment your other great reviews about Tacoma lighting options, since there are so many pros and cons as far as LED vs Incandesant lighting/bulbs I'd really be interesting in knowing which are the best choices for the upper Third brake light as far as direct replacement bulbs, looking forward to knowing what are the best choices.

I’m very happy with the result, no need for me to add extra light bars etc to my truck anymore. Suits my night driving needs perfectly, especially through heavy elk country.

that looks like you have no usable light below the cutoff. is the pic bad or bulbs?

 

The road is bright. Just updating my original post. If I were you I’d stick to regular bulbs though.

My 2006 reflectors and bulbs are so awful right now. Looking for a replacement/improvement.

 

What is awful about them?

You don’t want to drop LEDs into the OEM housing as you will have glare and loss of beam pattern. If wanting LEDs look for a complete replacement like the Morimotos, which will have a nice clean cut off and evenly distributed beam pattern.
