Came across this diagram from the '04 Factory Service Manual instructions on re-gearing the diff. Apparently midway through assembly you have to make yourself ring gear soup.

not required usually. That is just supposted to help get the ring gear back on the carrier as it is a very tight fit. I just used a rubber mallet though and was fine.

Are you planning on doing your own diffs??? That is NOT an easy project. I'll never do that again.

Oh hell no - I've heard the horror stories from everyone. Just curious.

Actually cheaper for me to buy the right differential instead of having my existing one regeared.

Did you get frank fixed yet? After your front diff explosion is that why? I have considered trying to do one myself eventually, but not sure I ever will risk it.

Yeah, diffs aren't cheap. Sucks haha

Yeah I did. The front diff exploded most likely due to my lack of knowledge/tools for doing the front diff gear setting. It sucks. The clamshell is the worst. Said fuck it and bought an ECGS diff. the warranty was worth it for me.

So far my rear is fine. Have had it apart twice and reset it. But its MUCH easier to work on the rears. Relatively speaking. Toyota diffs in general aren't all that fun and pretty picky and sensitive when its done wrong.

I never recommend it to anyone unless they have all the tools to do it. Which almost no one has. Plus depending on the diff can take a long time as most the master install kits don't have quality shims so you have to order OEM ones after you've measured what you need. Most diff shops will just have all those in stock.

Now if it you have like Ford diffs or something. Those suckers are easy to set up.

I've been seeing and hearing of all sorts of Q/C issues with ECGS lately.

I'd look elsewhere to get your diffs setup.

If i was closer id have had @thefatkid do mine in a heart beat. But by the time i factored in shipping and such i was spending way more. Figure with the warranty i'll get me through if it nukes again.

Slightly hoping it will when and if that 8'' front retro kit comes out...but only if that kit is out

Yeah its super easy to set the back lash. Just two nuts haha whole ring moves just with the nuts.

Spent a couple of hours adding a little luxury to my truck, with a leather wrap for the steering wheel.

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GO9VQH6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Just followed the instructions that came with it, and mostly went well. Unfortunately, I miscounted as I went around one of the spokes, and wound up with a wrinkle when I got back to the starting point, at the top of the wheel. If I were to do it again, I would make sure of the alignment by starting close to the seam (at bottom of wheel), and marking some spots around to serve as checks as you go along.

But it should still be a good feel on those cold NY mornings.

Well, the ol' dreaded P2238 code came up again (once in Moab in Oct then poof gone).

I noticed that my MPG is dropping significantly as of two tanks last. (225 vs 150).
    Had O'Reilly's confirm P2238 = yep.
    Had O'Reilly's quote front O2 sensor @ $175
Drove to Renton Toyota for quote on front O2 sensor and they stated that 03 3.4 Taco has a front air/fuel sensor and a rear O2 sensor.
Quoted $279 by manager as I winced...
He showed me the schematic and sure as $hit, labeled differently.
Best he could do was $227 + tax.

Not how I wanted to spend $$$ but then again it's being spit out the clipped exhaust pipe nearly faster than I can fill it up...
